Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Quiet after Combi Vacci

Ranj77

Young Bun
Our 9 week old bunny was vaccinated yesterday evening (6.15pm) with the combi vaccination (Myxo, VHD & VHD2). He seems quieter than usual and is spending lots of time in his hidey house. He is still eating pellets and hay and drinking water and pooing etc but he seems less interested in the hay and not his usual self. Is this normal behaviour? Should we be worried?

I would keep an eye on him and if he is no brighter tomorrow ring your Vet to tell them. It is good that he is eating etc and hope he gets back to his normal self soon.

Thank you. I have just been to see him and he is out of his house and eating hay :) I think I worried myself silly reading some threads about bunnies getting ill after the vaccination and passing away. I realy don't want to lose another bunny, it's so heartbreaking when that happens.

Some Bunnies can be a bit off colour for a couple of days after vaccination. They may also run a slight fever. I'd make sure that your Bunny keeps eating, drinking pooing and weeing OK. If you remain concerned then give the Vet a call for some advice. If Bunny does have a slight fever some Metacm should help bring it down and make Bunny feel much better. Usually this is not necessary though and the Rabbit gets back to their normal selves with 48 hours.

The details of the vaccine, including possible adverse reactions can be seen here :

Thanks he seems much better now. I have got a list of things to buy for my bunny first aid kit:

- Metacam from vet
- Oral Feeding Syringe:*10cc
- Oxbow Critical Care
- Syringes for medication:*1cc
- Entracare https://www.carrs.co.uk/rabbit

Have I missed anything?

I forgot to get the metacam when we went for the vaccinations  as we had to wait outside.
