  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dandruff

Hello, Just noticed while I was grooming Bungee yesterday, that she has some white flakes on her ears, almost like dandruff. Have looked it up and it sounds like something called walking dandruff..is this mites? Should she see the vets or is it something I can treat at home?
Many thanks. x

Call your vets - my vet told me OTC treatment simply isn't strong enough (it might well be the same drug though - I dunno). With Covid they may be happy to just have a photo sent & pick up the treatment. Its one to watch though as mites are more evident if bunny is run down, has dental or arthritic issues as normally they'll get rid by just groming. So if they offer a check up its no bad thing. Is Bungee in good health?

She's 9 years old now, but seems in pretty good health. The only real problem she has is blocked tear ducts. She's had this for a couple of years and the vet has always advised against getting them flushed, as they don't seem to bother her. I keep her eyes clean and we occasionally use drops if they are particularly bad.

Some days I feel she is a bit slower and then she surprises me by hopping around like a crazy thing!
