Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit spaying - how long to keep indoors?

Hi, I just asking how long I should keep my bunny indoors after being spayed, he is going stir crazy already being caged indoors, he has so much space outdoors he’s wanting to move round and I feel awful keeping him caged up indoors.

For a male rabbit after neuter I would only keep him in until I was sure he was over the anaesthetic.. it certainly sounds like your little guy is! If he has ramps or jump platforms the I would keep him off jumping/stretching for a few days/a week.

He had his surgery on Thursday, I came downstairs this morning to find him jumping over the house in the cage, I’ve checked the wound and it looks fine, his bowels are back to normal and he’s thrown his food all over his cage and just demolished a broccoli stem.

It's only been 2 days so I would be cautious. My boys I've just had neutered were kept quiet for 10 days. The same for a girl. Just do the best you can.

If your Bunny is male and had a routine castration, not an abdominal castration, then I'd keep him in for 2-3 days

With Does a spay is a far more invasive surgical procedure and they should be kept in a confined space for 7-10 days and prevented from jumping up onto/down from high areas.

Would the weather have an affect? I’m just thinking, it’s spitting a little here, if I let him out would the wet have any affect on the wound?

I would keep him in the dry only. I wouldn't be so much worried about the actual wound but his immune system could be more vulnerable so if he got wet and risked a chill he wouldn't be able to fight off infections as well as he normally would.

Oh that’s a good point, I’m just eyeing up the best room in the house to let him get some exercise, he isn’t fully litter trained.
