I never got around to really collecting together everything when Aboleth died, so I've tried for her gotcha anniversary :)

Here's an album of pictures (of both her and Lopsy) on Google Photos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/d49CbiLhM4vct8zG8

We miss her: she was smart, not destructive most of the time and super pretty. She had the best moult lines :) Her ears moulted noticeably, she had weird front paws, and this weird bumskirt. Her missing eye sometimes had eyebrows

She arrived from Notts Nibblers rescue (since closed) having been bonded with Lopsy. No-one knew her past but she'd come from another rescue with a horrible eye abscess which was removed before bonding, and she was called Bluebell by the rescue, so for a couple of months. They got on on first meeting and Lopsy was quite humpy but he soon backed down and Aboleth became top bun. She was quite harassing  She was smarter but otherwise just as food-obsessed, inquisitive, friendly and generlaly lovely :)

Apart from that weird bumskirt and her weird ear moults, she had FABULOUS moult lines, sometimes that looked like ringworm, and wasn’t massively keen on being de-fluffed. She wasn’t aggressive but did bite my finger badly because she thought it was apple  She got caught on bramble sticks and ran around like a loony sometimes. She stole food off Lopsy really easily, and waited for him to do the work so she could get it (smart ;P). She didn’t care for cucumber and preferred celery. She wasn’t keen on fruit except apple. She didn’t like the rain but loved the snow. She couldn’t stand us being high up, or next door, and would run around thumping. We think that was because she had poorer eyesight due to only having one eye :) She didn’t care at all about loud noises or anything. She tried to make friends with one of next door’s cats, Frank  Her and Frank had a neighbourly-hello relationship :D She liked to roll in the dirt and sleep in wonky positions.

I don’t know if she was a cuddle bun: I never tried  But she never tried to sit on me either, except at the vets a couple of times :) She wasn’t as keen as Lopsy to use our hands as platforms to stand on to reach up. She was easier to lift into the carrier etc., but less easy to entice in, as I think she knew what was up

The vet said her teeth were abominable, but she was such a good hay eater she never had a problem :) Her cause of death was likely cancer all over: she had three big neck lumps (lymphoma) which I reckon was what stopped her eating/drinking in those last days, her kidney function was all over the place as well and I don’t think she would have recovered if she hadn’t chosen to go when she did :)

Given how she was acting all through her life, I’d say she was the same age as Lopsy (within 6m) because Chibbs at 5 compared to Lopsy’s 6.5 seems much more active.

We buried her in the hole she dug in the lawn, and I’ll create a little shrine in the back bedroom as well.

You were our first proper rescue rabbit, Aboleth, and you were our first ‘OMG you named your rabbit after a D&D monster?!’ experiment too, and that worked. You showed us proper rabbit behaviour, you were stunning to look at, and you were friendly. You are missed

A wonderful tribute! Thanks for sharing. She looked very like my Bertie does, but he doesn't get such distinct moult lines. xx

Beautiful pics of them and lovely memories  Ouch I remember your finger! She had a wonderful life with you, Matt and Lopsy.

Thanks everyone :)

She looked very like my Bertie does, but he doesn't get such distinct moult lines. xx
I've often looked at Bertie's picture and thought he looks like a slightly paler Aboleth, I suspect he doesn't have the dark line between the white underfur and fawn bits on top :D

She was a smart cookie & a beautiful one:love:. i liked her way of getting her own way. i like too that she lives on in the stories you continue to tell

It's been a year and we still miss Aboleth. We've realised just how smart she was compared to our current two  There's lots of 'Aboleth wouldn't've been this stupid' 'OMG Aboleth would have totally got this by now' 'Aboleth would have done that better'

Thanks everyone: she liked to roll in the dirt, the flop is where she's considering her options, whether to roll over and lie on her front or get up, or stay just about there and flop out properly :) I don't have a second picture so I dunno what she decided in this case  She was really pretty, even if her face wasn't symmetrical  It's still weird having two bunnies with the right number of eyes

That is such a moving and tender tribute with beautiful photos, videos and memories of such a special rabbit, full of character and so lucky to have been rescued by you. Her life was certainly enriched from the love and care you gae her. xx
