  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sorry to message asking for advise when I have not been active for so long, its just too hard since loosing Jims.
We are looking to move house and just viewed a property and there was a dead pigeon in the fireplace which is in the room which would be Cookies room where she would free range.
Is there any risk for her health wise that could remain once it has been removed?

So to move in would be fine even if I didn't clean it and cookie could move into the room.and be fine?

I'm really starting to worry i won't be able to handle this.
This move is supposed to be a good move for the family, a fresh start, i would hate to move and my mental health to decline.
It just feels very similar to when we moved and found a bait box but this time its a dead pigeon.
I dont know if I can cope with it?

It's fine. Nothing from a dead pigeon can be transferred to a rabbit. You are over anxious and over thinking because of the stress of moving.

So you all would be happy and confident about putting your rabbit in the same room and allowing it to roam free and coming into contact with the area the pigeon was?

Anything can be cleaned off with disinfectant. I would be happy having the rabbit free range after it has been disinfected, yes. Even if it wasn't disinfected, any microbes would die on their own.

I agree with this:thumb:

Once it was cleaned yes. Our garden is covered in pigeon poo, I don't worry about it. None of our rabbits or other animals have got sick. We have found several dead black birds in the garden and buried them. I haven't cleaned the grass. The outdoor bunnies would use the garden. Sadly we know the birds were attacked by a cat or other birds.

There is a fire guard there currently but the pigeon is right up against it.
Not sure if its a working fire though, must be i giess if a pigeon got in?
Maybe I could get a new fire guard, are they all the same size?

Think they are standard. Try ebay, should be cheaper there.
