  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Stasis Recovery

Yes shes waiting for some bloodwork on Monday before giving long term advice.

Shes recommended growing some grass for them as that might help them both with teeth long term. They're indoor buns and our concrete patio is frequented by tons of cats unfortunately.

He hiding in his home we had to give him his meds which wasnt very successful. He chewed a bit but was very sleepy.

She said she flushed? his bladder but not a great deal managed to come out. I think we'll be reviewing diet so thank you very much for the sheets.

It's funny apart from a bit of parsley I thought we were fairly calcium light but seems not.

I hope that Rodney has been recovering overnight and is not so drowsy now. Rabbits do have a complex calcium metabolism, there is so information about it here if you are interested :)

Sending lots of recovery vibes for him. I’m glad the specialist was able to help xx

It is wonderful that your specialist was able to offer you so much information regarding your Rodney. Long points on teeth can impact their eating even if they do not have redness, though it may take a couple days before he is fully recovered.
Sending you and Rodney lots of vibes for a full recovery.

Miserable bunny this morning. He's just not swallowing his critical care much. I had slowly worked up to the big 15ml syringe but am swapping back to 1ml so it's a bit easier for him.

He's eaten a tiny bit of dried plantian and echinacea forage and keeps attacking and eating the newspaper in their loos. There are some small poo coming through and considering all the stress yesterday he seems to be ok.

We shall keep persevering. I'm expecting that his next dose of metacam at 8PM will give him a boost.

His poor ear looks sore from his fluids. Poor thing has one shaved ear and half a shaved belly. He looks rather confused when he goes to groom!

Poor fella. Has he had any urine output ? If not I'd give the Vet a call and let them know x

He has done a few small pees. And had a little to drink. We're going to try giving him 1 to 2ml of cc frequently for a bit in between meds to get him going.

Thank you for all the well wishes. He's perking up a little. It's been almost 24 hours since he was sedated now and he's more alert.

Bit of hunched up positioning but is in a muffin for now. The 1ml feeds are going better than the big ones. Scoop him up pop the syringe in, pop another in and then down before he realises.

Meds time I may need to comprise and go for meds first and try a quick food after. I put a bit more forage dried dandelion and plantain down and that's going down well.

Still turns away from most fresh food no matter what's offered although I sometimes spy him going back to it every so often and giving a good sniff.

And Primrose well she cant belive her luck at all this tasty stuff being mixed in the hay. Although I am still receiving telling off nudged for the trip yesterday. As always she charmed all the staff and spent the entire day scoffing their hay supply.

It's actually embarrassing how happy I was to see the pile :D He's picking at a bit more food too.

Fingers crossed this is the beginning of a proper recovery for the poor lad.

I really hope so. signs are positive. You're not the first on here to practically weep at the sight of bunny poo & you won't be the last:lol:. I had my bunnies poo as my avatar for a while as I was so proud

I can understand your happiness at the sight of poo in a stasis bunny as can most ru members. After my Heidi's first dental tuesday I was relieved to see her first poos and counted them too  In the book I record meds and progress I have been known to draw a circle to show the size of poos.

May Rodney continue to improve.

I cant believe I am sitting here eating my cornflakes and cheering at reading about the production of poo !!

Well done Rodders

Thanks all. Rodders is seeming much more normal today or at least pre dental normal.

I have noticed he isnt yawning when he stretches so I think whoever's suggested his jaw may be sore for a bit was right on the money.

Any tips on encouraging drinking in a rabbit that hates sweet stuff? I'm trying coriander tea but he doesnt seem inclined towards it. He's not big on mint although does eat it.

Today I've noticed Primrose has sludgy urine too although no discomfort so am thinking a diet chat with the vet is necessary. She drinks a fair bit though so maybe that's why it's not become a problem for her.

She adores oxbow cranberry treats and he will eat those. I've been giving them rosewood fenugreek tabs to encourage appetite but maybe i should alternate?

I bought rosewood fenugeek before someone posted on ru they contained corn so not good for bunnies. Others said they use and ok. I decided not to use.
