Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Stasis Recovery

Well he's just headed in for his appointment. So strange to sit in the car and wait instead of holding him.

He's only cuddly at the vets bless him.

Primrose is having a vaccine too as they're in today which is good as I was worried shes at risk because they wern't doing them for a while.

Now fingers crossed it's something they can find and treat easily.

Thank you well bless him he's mauled the vet fiesty was the word she used. Unfortunately she cant find anything wrong. She said his teeth are a little off but it's what she'd expect with two weeks of syringe feeding and not got a red tongue.

She's not wanting to give him any fluids as although his gut sounds are slow it's all moving and hes not dehydrated although has lost weight. I got the impression she didnt want to admit him. Instead a referral to the exotic vet 20 miles away.

So sent home with a top up of Emeprid and waiting for the other vets to call. She did ask me to reduce his metacam to once every 24 hours as she cant see that hes in pain and to let him out to run around more but also keep him cool.

He spat out all of his 4pm meds and feed in outrage at all the handling. And is now trying to eat walls. So now just hoping the new vet calls today and accepts the referral.

Oh I really hope that the Specialist can see him ASAP. It is obviously really stressful for you as well as for him. Poor lad

Have called both vets and the paperwork hasn't been done yet. Its seems they see him more as a mystery than an emergency.

We are so tired my Dh literally almost cried when the vets didnt admit him. I think he was hoping for a break from the feeds and being scratched to pieces.

But I know it's better for him to be in his own home and he flopped on the sofa for the very first time just now so hes obviously not completely unhappy with us.

I am bothered that my vet said she didnt have the equipment to do the tests for rabbits. I'm starting to think I'm just going to use them for the basics and register them with the exotic vet for everything else.

I would definitely do that x

I'm really sorry you didn't get more out of the consult today. It's so worrying and frustrating when they're sick and you don't know why.

I hope you hear back from the specialist soon. In my experience, they don't waste time when it comes to getting straight into the diagnostics so hopefully you'll be able to get to the bottom of what's going on sooner rather than later.

Sorry you are struggling. Sending you all lots of vibes.

Sending loads more vibes to your bunny., I hope you can get an appointment with the specialist asap.

Thank you we're still waiting.

He's up and bright and bouncy again today after having all 15 ml of his feed and all his meds. He doesnt seem to be missing the extra metacam dose we dropped last night. He passed 10 poops for me that are almost normal size.

And one big one with a hair matt in again. Starting to think hes overingested and slowed everything down. Hes eaten a bit more since coming back from the vets. He hates the car but seemed to enjoy the vibrations while we weren't moving.

Hes in the loo eating hay now and I wonder whether I'm just overreacting to it all. But he has lost a little weight and that's not normal for healthy buns is it?

It is if they are eating less. From your description of his demeanour today it sounds as though he may be improving. When he hops out of his loo maybe you'll find more poo which would be a very encouraging sign x

Well we've just left them with the exotic vet.

Bless him his gut noises are slow at once every minute rather than every 30 secs. This vet thinks he might have a jaw issue as he reacted badly to touch there although he's not overly tolerant of any touches.

Hes going to have some xrays bloodwork and possibly an ultrasound. It was so lovely to have a vet that understood that just because hes bright and curious that theres not something going on.

Unfortunately he will need some sedation but heres hoping he tolerates that well. Fingers crossed.

Also a bit worried about how much his insurance will cover but we'll just have to cope.

I am glad that he is now with a Rabbit Savvy Vet and I hope that all goes well for him x

I am glad specialist is investigating to find cause so he can get appropriate treatment. While he is sedated they can get a good look at everything. It should be less stressful for your boy too. Sending vibes.

Thank you for the well wishes.

Rodney has three diagnoses the poor thing. He has some lung scarring from a previous respiratory infection likely Snuffles. Vet said it means he'll need urgent care if he comes down with anything like that again.

He had significant bladder sludge although no stones which is good. He's been flushed out and his bloodwork will need to dictate further treatment.

And finally hes had some very sharp spurs burred. The vet said like the previous vet there weren't any sign of irritation but they were incredibly sharp.

Off to pick him up now. Am expecting much bunny butt treatment!

Oh poor Rodney. [emoji17]

I'm glad the specialist was able to find out what was going on with him. He may be a bit dozy from the sedation so he may be quite quiet and subdued over the next 24 hours. Also, dental work usually involves holding the jaw open quite wide for a period of time. His jaw may therefore feel a bit sore and sensitive over the next couple of days. This might make him a bit reluctant to eat still so you may need to brace yourselves to carry on with assisted feeding over the next couple of days.

He may of course be absolutely fine, but I just thought it best to prepare you in advance just in case!

I hope Rodney makes a swift recovery.

Poor fella, I suspect the bladder sludge was what was making him feel most uncomfortable. I expect that your Vet will give you advice re long term management of the condition, but this diet sheet may be useful to take a look at :

and a bit of information about Bladder Sludge

Finally, you may want to ask your Vet about using these

I hope that Rodney will be feeling much more comfortable and that he will be back to his usual self x

I'm so pleased that the specialist was able to identify some issues to explain his behaviour. Hopefully, he will start to improve now. Sending him lots more vibes.

Yes shes waiting for some bloodwork on Monday before giving long term advice.

Shes recommended growing some grass for them as that might help them both with teeth long term. They're indoor buns and our concrete patio is frequented by tons of cats unfortunately.

He hiding in his home we had to give him his meds which wasnt very successful. He chewed a bit but was very sleepy.

She said she flushed? his bladder but not a great deal managed to come out. I think we'll be reviewing diet so thank you very much for the sheets.

It's funny apart from a bit of parsley I thought we were fairly calcium light but seems not.
