Hay Bales

zhuJ2002

New Kit
Hi everyone, just a post for those who are around Orpington/Bromley in the UK. I currently food my bunny Timothy hay through a subscription which is much more expensive than buying hay by the bale. However, I know that it’s difficult to obtain Timothy hay here in the UK so does anyone around me know where to look for Timothy hay bales? I’m trying to save some money so any suggestions would be great. Thank you. 💚

I buy Second Cutting Timothy Hay from Small Pet Select and find it it quite cost efficient if bought in large amounts (we buy the 60 pound bag). We buy on a subscription and it works out for around £1 per LB of hay if that makes sense. Possibly not the cheapest out there but it is good quality so it’s worth it I think.

Why does it have to be timothy hay? A variety of grass types found in baled hay is fine - and probably a more balanced / natural mix than a single variety of grass (which is what timothy is). No wild rabbit is going to pick out a single grass over others in the field.

Try your local equine supplier as they will stock good quality hay bales at decent prices - it will be cheaper than more specialist suppliers, if cost is the main issue. It is less messy if you transport / store it in a duvet cover.

I buy baled hay from an equine feed supplier for my goats but my rabbits prefer other hay, I buy Timothy hay from Timothy hay.co.uk, hay box and dust free hay. I also buy sweet green hay from nature’s own and they love that too. I figure that although it’s more expensive than baled hay because they like it more, they eat more and there’s hardly any waste that it’s worth it.
