Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Swollen genitals (now sorted)

Hi, I noticed last night my rabbit had a dirty bottom and as I was cleaning her up I noticed her genitals were swollen. She’s spayed but I’ve recently bonded her with a male who hasn’t yet been neutered. I can’t get him done until after isolation when the vets open again. I was wondering if the swelling could be from him mounting her, but I haven’t seen him do this much recently. Does anyone have any suggestions what this could be please or anything I can do to help? Thank you!

Hello

It could be that your Buck has made your Doe sore. Personally I would not keep them together until he has been neutered. It will be extremely stressful for both Rabbits.

The Doe's genitals may be infected, especially as you say she had a very mucky bum ( which can be a symptom of stress)

Then of course there is the possibility of Myxomatosis. Are your Rabbits fully vaccinated ?

Can you call the Vet for some advice. A video consultation may be offered or the Vet may want to see your Doe and there will be procedures in place for him/her to do so with minimal contact with you.

It isn't advisable to keep an unneutered boy with a spayed girl as he will want to mate with her all the time. She could get very upset by this and attack him. I hope your Doe will be ok.
