Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Advice please - fast breathing - ETA - Update post 32

Thanks guys. Bit of an update.. OH managed to get her eating some dandelion from his hand so we've been on a local dandelion hunt and put a tonne in the run. She's been munching away! I would say she was eating for 3 - 4 minutes non-stop so I'm really happy with her. Just got to keep it up now. She's nibbled some banana and grass since. Come on Blue, you can do it!

Good to hear :) Sometimes the simplest things in life, like Dandelions, can become the most important :)

That sounds really positive :)

Thanks everyone. She's been up and eating today, bit of grass and dandelion. She's definitely eating less than normal but at least she's eating!

Given that a LRTI can make a Bunny feel really rubbish it is certainly very good news that she is eating something for herself. I really hope that the abx get on top of the infection soon xx

Just another update from us. She's been even better today with the eating, on grass all day and constantly grazing. Once locked in she demolished a few dandelions I had picked. We just did the evening medicine and she dug straight into her pellets immediately afterwards which is amazing as every other medicine administration has left her in a huge sulk for at least half an hour. So I think she's getting more tolerant of it. She's always been the most tolerant bunny I've ever known so it's good to see her personality returning. She's much brighter eyed today too. Onwards and upwards we hope!

Just a little update as I know a lot of people were concerned about her. Blue is doing really well. She's eating like her old self and her little personality is coming back too. Her breathing has slowed down in pace somewhat but is still not perfect. We have another 5 days of abx to get through so hopefully she'll be on the mend after that :)

That's really good news. It is usually advisable to continue abx treatment for a few days AFTER all clinical symptoms have resolved. So if she still has just minor symptoms when you get to the end of the abx course I'd ask the Vet if she could prescribe a few more days supply. Ideally it would be good for the Vet to have another listen to her chest. But due to all the restrictions Covid 19 is enforcing the Vet may decide to just prescribe a few more days abx.
