The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Cutting rabbits nails

So we’ve recently rescued a beautiful female but her nails are oh so very long! Because of this the quick has obviously grown out with the nail, so we’ve only been able to do a trim but her nails are still very long because of the quick (she’s got white nails so thankfully we can easily see)

I’m just wondering does the quick ever shorten again cause obviously we can’t cut to an appropriate length all the time the quick is there too

Is it going to be a case of just nipping the ends little and often? I feel so bad for her because her nails are quite long and must be uncomfortable poor thing. I’m hoping over time the quick will shorten so we can then cut to a reasonable length?

hi - according to the RWAF this can be remedied

If nails are very long and the quick is quite high, you can encourage it to recede by what’s known as nibbling. Clip the nails twice a week or even every other day, just by nibbling a tiny bit off. As the nails get shorter, the quick will too, until your rabbit has nails that are a comfortable length.

Oh I really hope it does retract bless her, we’ve managed to take a tiny tip off today and they’re still so long I feel awful for her :(

I’m just thankful she had white nails!
