  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Clarification on safe OTC creams

Can someone just clarify what creams are bunny safe for sores?

Sudocrem
Savlon
Germoline

They are all considered safe for rats but Google is suggesting the cetrimid in savlon isn't safe? The Germoline I assume smells far to strong for a bunny?

Sudocrem seems to be ok... my vet hasn't told me to stop using it but it's too thick and is matting his fur and making things worse even with trimming 🙄

Only Sudocrem, but personally I never use it. What are you intending to use it on ?

Bobby has 2 blocked tear ducts (long story, 100% can't be unblocked) so his eyes water which makes his face sore.

Vets say bathe with hibi but I've got to be careful because it's so close to his eye. I just need get this flare up under control so I can try Vaseline to prevent it

I am not a Vet/ Vet Nurse, but personally I would not use Hibiscrub anywhere near the eyes. I'd just use sterile saline, which can be warmed up. That tends to help break down encrusted discharge. It may take several days to get the crusting off as pulling at it too much will just make the area more sore. Once the crusting has been removed I'd then use something like this
