Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Strange tummy aches, weird eating behaviour every few weeks (not connected)

bunnybinkie

New Kit
I basically have 2 questions:

The first one refers to his eating behaviour
He sometimes suddenly doesnt want pellets for like 5 days
And then eats them again.
I tried opening a new pack and even offered a different Brand just to rule those out.
Teeth were also fine. Doesn't seem to be linked to
Molting either. Then he suddenly goes through days that he eats so much all day.

2) every few weeks he suddenly
Gets a tummy ache and lies down
Weird and in sttange places.

He never ate anything
Wrong or weird beforehand either.
The poops after didn't have hair in it
Either. It always only lasts for around
4h and then he's back to normal, without
Any medicine. We massage his tummy though and continue to offer hay.
It also ever happens between 9pm
And 2am. Its really weird.
It happens every 6-8 weeks.

I was thinking I have to ask the vet next time.
But does anyone have any idea?

Have you had his teeth checked by the Vet? Regarding his tummy pressing, does he eat veg? Does he eat a good amount of hay each day?

Is he an outdoor Rabbit ? If so could there be a predator about such as a Fox ? Fear induced stress can stop a Rabbit from eating.

What is his water intake and urine output like ? Tummy pressing can occur as a result of urinary tract problems as well as GI tract problems. Bladder sludge/stones in particular can cause recurring episodes of abdominal pain.

His teeth are fine.
His hay intake varies ,I usually check that on how much he poops. He is a house rabbit which can roam the living room.. The bladder thing I dont know🤔.
