The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Dennis ear problem

Hi everybun,

Dennis cannot clean very well due to his athritis and I have noticed he has dry skin on the inside of his ears. It really bothers him as he tries to scratch it but topples over when he can put weight on one foot.

I checked doctor custards ears and they are normal so I am doubting it is ear mites.

I have to clean his eyes so was just wondering if there was any type of cream that would stop the itching. I am aware that if he is unable to clean he may develop ear infections. Looking directly inside the holes they are clean, smell ok and no lumps at the base of his ears. I have had a bun with ear infections and I feel this doddery related problem. We are due to see Uncle John as Dennis needs vaccinations and eye check so will show him also.

Thoughts anybun?

Oh poor Dennis :(

When Clementine grooms she sometimes over balances, I think it's a combo of fat and arthritis, she let's me hold her up though or leans against me for support, would Dennis let you do this? It might be different, Clementine had to get very used to hands on care like that when she couldn't use her back legs so it became our normal..I realise a lot of buns probably wouldn't accept that though.

Hopefully John /someone else on here will be able to advise about cream if that's an option.

Hope you can help him get his ears sorted x

Sorry to hear about Dennis's ears, I've no suggestions as to what might help, but hope your vet might be able to give him something xx

Personally I would not put anything into or on Dennis's ears til the Vet has had a good check inside them. The Vet may prescribe a general ear cleaner to use on a regular basis, but it is importnat to check that both eardrums are intact and that no signs of infection are present before putting anything into/on the ears :)
