  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit savvy Vets around Bromley/Orpington

New Kit
Hi everyone! New to the site here. I have recently just got another rabbit but am still looking for a good vet around my area in Orpington Kent. I’m register at Companion Care vets who I’m not entirely sure about :? Definitely want my rabbit to get good care.

Has anyone got any recommendations?

I lost my previous rabbit quite suddenly and not sure what to - don’t want that to happen again!

Thanks everyone x

Hi, welcome to the forum  I'll ask one of the Mods to move your post to Rabbit Chat where it will get more views. Hopefully, someone will then come along to give you some recommendations. I know of a really excellent vet in Maidstone, but that might be too far for you. That's Mark Rowland at Trinity Vets.

Welcome to the forum. I cannot help you with your question, yet know you will find RU to contain much information about your bunnies; along with a support system for you and your rabbits.
We would enjoy seeing photos of your bunnies and hearing stories about their personalities.

Well worth a trip to Maidstone to see Mark Rowland at Trinity Vets

Also, the Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund have a Rabbit Savvy Vet List

The RWAF are a fantastic source of information for all Rabbit Health and Welfare issues :)

GBH Rescue are over that way somewhere, so it might be worth asking who they use too.

Definitely Mark. I live in Dartford and wouldn't go anywhere else. I went to so many vets and even a specialist when Doughnut was ill and no one recognised her symptoms or told me she was OK, when in fact she was really ill. Mark was my last hope and he was fantastic. She was then on long term medication for acid reflux and slow gut mobility. When I had to put her to sleep last month, he was the only vet I trusted to tell me the time was right as she bounced back so often. And he was the one to put her to sleep and sent me a card afterwards to say how sorry he was.

Weeks before I had to put her to sleep I went to my local vets as an emergency in the night and they basically didn't have much of a clue involving rabbits and told me to take her back home and literally die! They also don't have the specialist medicine that is at a specialist. So worth the drive, if you're in Orpington it will probably take you about 25-30 mins.

Richard is also very good there. He's also an exotic vet specialist and the prices aren't any more expensive than local vets. In fact because I had to visit so often sometimes and Doughnut stayed in a lot, Mark didn't charge me for consultation fees or overnight stays during these periods.

Brilliant thanks everyone, sounds like Mark at Trinity is the one to go for. Just need to convince my taxi driver (my mum!) to make that trip for my little bunny’s check ups. Thanks again everyone!

If you need any help convincing your mum, I would say that a specialist rabbit vet ends up saving a good amount of time and money in the long run as they will normally do the right diagnostics, identify any issues and get them on the right treatment plan much earlier. Unfortunately with some vets who aren't very rabbit savvy you can waste a lot of time and money going backwards and forwards before you end up getting referred to the specialist anyway!

I live near Bromley and go to Kings Road Vet in Biggin Hill. That’s the same vet that GBH Rescue recommended to me and I wouldn’t go anywhere else now.
