  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hellpppp

Hi my name is Holly, I have a bunny who is 21 weeks just and he has just been neutured 2 days ago, he has been checked by the vets as they are very happy with how he is and they have discharged him as he's very healthy and they say he is healing well and can continue to do normal exercise if he wants, his name is Harvey, so im wondering how long after neutering can I start putting sawdust back into his hutch? Like his normal bedding?

I'd give it a week or so, don't want anything getting in the area whilst he's healing :)

Just to say though, is this the pets at home sawdust? Because other than aspen shavings, sawdust is toxic to rabbits.

Also welcome to the forum :)

Hello :)

I am glad to hear that your Bunny is healing well from his op'. Sawdust is really not the most suitable bedding for Rabbits as it can cause respiratory problems and in some cases Liver and gut problems

So I would consider using a more suitable alternative from now on such as Megazorb or Aubiose

You could use this bedding in another day or so as long as his surgical wound is almost healed (which it should be)

The Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund has a huge amount of information about Rabbit care on their website
