Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Zoflora and rabbits

Does anyone have any experience of using zoflora disenfectant around rabbits? I’m reading conflicting things online. I’ve used it to clean the rabbits shed before and I’m wondering if this could be linked to the 3 rabbits I’ve lost :(

I use it in my kitchen and bathroom but the rabbits never go in there, and I never use it when they’re near said rooms as it can be very toxic to pets from what I’ve read.

I’ve read conflicting things. I thought that as long as it was well ventilated before the rabbits went back in it’ll be fine. Perhaps this has been my problem, thank you everyone. Does anyone know of a pet safe cleaning product I can use to mop the floor in the shed? Or should I just not mop it? It doesn’t get too bad but I like to freshen it up a bit

I would say this is true but for rooms that rabbits are not going in. I wouldn’t use it in their living areas [emoji846] so I wouldn’t let them near the kitchen when I’d cleaned with it even though they never actually go in the kitchen. You can get a safe disinfectant called virkon or I use diluted white vinegar for spot cleaning

I wouldn’t use it around pets. I just want to say though, whatever the cause, I hope you can find it and eliminate it, and if this a possible cause then it can be eliminated from the future. And I want to send you hugs and say I hope you feel ok, because it is not your fault. As with anything in life, we can only use the knowledge that we have at the time xx

I don't think it is safe around pets but I echo what Zoobec said.
You are upset enough without torturing yourself any further.

Washing up liquid and bleach - a squirt of each in a bucket of water.
I use Virkon if I need something more specific, eg for EC.

I use Milton steralising tablets for cleaning the piggies bed x
