  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Syringe feeding tips?

Metacam's a funny one because I think people get concerned about high dosages because of the association with kidney damage. When I spoke with the specialist a couple of months ago about it, my understanding was that it's more of an issue in cats than rabbits. But don't quote me on that because I might have understood it wrong!

Sorry, couldn't resist quoting you on this one [emoji38] This is FHB's belief - its well tolerated even in bunnies with kidney probs. Rudeys new vet (Ruth) had this conversation with me the other week. His first vet though was very reluctant to prescribe him any though thinking it was a risk to his kidneys. I need to double check this as I was thinking why bother test Mousey's kidney function if she'd stay on it anyway but maybe its just for a dose adjustment like Rudey had

Mods: please invite FHB, John Chitty, Molly Varga, Simon from the Cat & Rabbit Clinic, Vet from the Royal D!ck & the posh place in london Scrappy goes - tell them to join, we want, nay need, a good Q&A session
I will ask John his opinion on kidneys and metacam.

We need a RU conference. Not a Gin and Sploofability one but where we can ask and get answers once and for all. We need name badges

I dunno, I quite like the idea of a green room where John & Frances can have a good old sploofin rest & everyone deserves a gin. I want both

Nothing less for Fudgie cake!

Fudgie and Snoops don't like going there. It's a teaching hospital so you normally have a few vet students in the consult as well. A battalion of stinky vets all poking and prodding. All those slimy human hands coming towards you and there's no escape from them. It's every bun's worst nightmare come true!
