Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dennis has to take Sulfratrim for two weeks and it smells and tastes horrid. We manage to give him metacam rolled up in a dried apple piece.

Any suggestions? I know Sheddies where suggested so which ones?

He won't take any baby mix like Ellas kitchen.

He definitely will not take anything from a syringe willingly

I’ve not used that medicine so I’m not sure how best to disguise it. Frosty doesn’t like shreddies  but he likes Aldi carrot parsnip and apple baby food, and mashed banana so I’ve been able to hide meds in that. Although in the end we gave up and he had to endure the syringe! You could try fenugreek crunchies. Sorry I’m not much help

Malted shreddies. Rudey was on sulfatrim last month. I managed to hide the first dose on banana smeared shreddie but he very quickly grew wise to it. Now I just pick em up, squirt it in to the corners of their mouth & at least you know they have had full dose

We can disguise baytril on a fenugreek crunchie, but you have to let it soak in which takes about 8hrs. Means lots of organisation :)

What is everybun thoughts of apple juice (home made) mixed with the meds in the syringe? To take the edge off? Is it safe to dilute it as such

I think the apple juice mixed with the meds would be fine. I've read that some people have just dipped the end of the syringe in blackcurrant juice and then filled the syringe up with the meds. I'm sure with my two I'd only get away with that once though :)

Hmmm Dennis is a clever bloke so we will see. If not ill have to give him the old Trawden wrangle

We use (to some success) dried cranberries. Mashed banana is also supposed to be a good way to deliver medicine. Maybe some cranberry juice?

Thanks Craig, I will experiment and see what he will take! Maple just wants the syringe, she's a good girl
