Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Has anyone's bunny had laser treatment for arthritis

Doughnut will start this if I notice an improvement after her one treatment. Just wondered how much it helped others

Not on my own rabbits but we use it a lot at work and the majority of owners report good improvement :)

I've no experience but will be really interested to hear how it goes for Doughnut. Really hoping it helps x

Thanks, I'm seeing my specialist the end of next week so will see if we think she should go ahead with it. If she's dry then I won't need to but she was wet again this morning after being dry for two days so I'll just monitor her.

My Vet has found that sometimes true improvement is more likely to occur after a few Laser Treatments. She uses it in combination with Acupuncture x

Pandora had K-Laser after her diagnosis (narrowing of the disc spaces L5-L7). She's also on Meloxidyl. I'm not really sure if it helped or not. We did the full six sessons and she did seem to improve a lot but she's been ok without it as well and she's been on various medications for various issues that could also have affected it. The bottom line for me at the moment is that she's doing fine and since we've maxed out her insurance the difference in her is so negligible that I can't justify the out of pocket expenses at this point.

I would love to find something to help my collie who has terrible arthritis in her front paws. She is on pain killers (loxicam and gabipentine, not sure of spelling) but is still in pain.

Laser treatment would be best. Acupuncture in the paws would be very painful xx

Well Doughnut is dry again but all her meds have been put up, so I'm going to put the metacam back down for a couple of days to see if she is suddenly wet. I need to find out if it's the tramadol, metacam or the laser that has made her dry so at least I may be able to eliminate one. Since I took her in dry I think it may be the tramadol has at last taken effect but she's on maximum doses of metacam and tramadol so nice to reduce one if possible! My insurance just starts again this week so they will take out £55 excess for arthritis claims then a further £55 if I try the laser as that's complementary. I will see what my specialist advises as she still isn't relaxing as much as she used to.

If I go down this route I will let you know. Doughnut is also on gabapentin, tramadol and metacam. I don't think she's in pain any more as seems happy but just doesn't relax as much. Could you try tramadol as well as I think that is really helping Doughnut.

Pandora's insurance doesn't roll over until the end of February (I think?) There's a not unreasonable chance she'll have passed by then. It's a little bit annoying that I'll still be paying out monthly on an insurance I might never claim on again.
