Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

In and out of stasis

Thank you everyone for your support.

she was definitely worse through the night than she was in the evening. Over the course of the evening she ate a few leaves and took some critical care and quite a bit of apple pear tea. She also did maybe 60 tiny poops.
Over night I was up every couple of hours to offer food and water but she wasnt interested. I reviewed the webcam footage and it does look like she nibbled a few leaves and a fibafirst stick but no real periods of munching like she had in the evening. She did still produce about 50 tiny poos though. It sounds so many but it looks like so little. I felt like I was doing an Easter hunt this morning crawling around looking for tiny poos and getting excited every time I found one

This morning she has no interest in anything. I'll make a fresh batch of recovery food and see if that helps any.

Eta: Simon warmed up last night's syringe feed for her and she had half a syringe, also 5ml of fruit tea.

Are you still giving her metacam and is it twice a day? I find now that Doughnut is older she takes longer to recover from a dental and recently I've had to either rush her to the emergency vets or my specialist during the day and they have put her on tramadol. She had a dental yesterday but since she is already on tramadol, gabapentin and metacam, she hasn't been too bad. He also put gel on her gums. Do you think she was worse as the meds had worn off?

She's still on twice daily metacam. It's difficult to say whether it's meds wearing off but certainly she seemed really bad then much better and now a gradual decline again.

Maybe ask your vet if you can give her a higher dosage as she does sound like she's in pain.

This is a good idea. Some vets are cautious about Metacam dosages, Frosty’s dose was increased post dental and this did help with the pain and his eating.

On my way back to the vet now. The banana flavoured critical care arrived thiugh and she's much more receptive to it so I'm feeling a little better

She's upped the dose of painkiller, put tramadol up for me in case I want it tomorrow, given me some cisapride and changed the dosage and frequency of emeprid.
She said lola doesn't feel gassy today but there isn't a lot of movement going on in the gut and if she's not improved tomorrow I could take her back in for them to put her on an iv and syringe feed her throughout the day.

That sounds like a good plan. I really hope she does improve soon xx

That's great, I'm sure she will improve with that. Tramadol is great but if the metacam works on it's own then you won't need it.

Oh I forgot to say the apple and banana critical care turned up and she is far happier to take it, and I don't have to mix any fruit in to it.

At least I'm certain she's off her food due to the pain and not something else. I can see her want to eat , but she can't bring herself to do it.

I read that some rabbits react badly to tramadol and get a bit zonked so I thought it best to wait and give this a go but will definitely give it a go tomorrow if she isn't any better.

Just had a report from Simon that she's done a huge wee on the bed and is sat on it eating cecals so that's great news.

Ah sounds like things are going in the right direction, you will know if he is still in pain or not. Doughnut isn't zonked on tramadol, just to reassure you, but if you don't need it that's great. I think gabapentin can have that effect.

She ate a little overnight and did about 50 poos but she's only had tiny nibbles of mint this morning and is refusing everything I offer her, including water.
I'm off to get that tramadol this afternoon and I'll stock up on more mint plants.
Really unsure of the best course of action at this point.

I think she just needs more pain relief and the tramadol should certainly help. Are you syringe feeding her? You may need to do that if she isn't eating much to get her gut going.

I've been trying every hour or so but she won't swallow it. As soon as my colleague is back from lunch I'm off to pick up the tramadol and mint and I might have better luck syringe feeding her with an extra pair of hands this evening when Simon finishes work.

How long do you find the tramadol usually takes to work?
