  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Acute kidney disease - u/d bloods ok!

Thank you both! Honey is on gabapentin and tramadol. Since her test was so good, we are starting the metacam again, on advice from D1ck vets, at a very small dose to start to see if that can help since she is still bothered with pain on a high dose of both the other meds. Hopefully then she will be able to eat more herself and I can stop most or all of the syringe feeds. She really hates them!

I am pleased you have a goodish up-date from the tests and hope Honey can remain well for a bit longer.

Ah just seen this, hope she is doing well today. Doughnut is on the same meds as she's wet and got the same as Honey in her spine. I find the tramadol takes a couple of weeks to totally kick in as it's been 2 weeks and now she was dry this morning and we added in metacam last week. I hope your little girl is back to normal soon, Doughnut has also lost weight and won't eat any hay, not eaten any for 9 weeks! I'm back to the specialist tomorrow since she has only recently been diagnosed with arthritis of the spine and need to get the meds right.
