Sweet dreams Rudey

Have you kept a diary of his eating preferences recently? I've looked back through this thread and it *appears* to me that his pickiness became more apparent after he started on Sulphatrim. Googling to see if this was a common issue, fair to say it was probably inconclusive. There are instances where it has been questionned whether Sulphatrim can cause loss of appetite and certainly in humans it can cause nausea and vomiting. It's a long shot but it would be a good result if this current issue was caused or made worse by the abx. How long has he got to take them for?

It did Omi! I wonder if this is what is making him off colour. I've felt ropey on antibiotics before. He is supposed to stay on them for 2 weeks. I'd say he is on day 10 . Another thing for discussions on Monday

Many thanks everybun

I think it was Doughnut. I did think about getting him some & now I've been reminded I should try him. Some things I try have got to work, surely

Yes it is Doughnut, she still won't eat any hay and eats a lot more of the dual care if I add warm water and mash them down for her. Even though she's not eaten hay for 10 weeks, on these she is still doing lots of poops and they aren't too tiny either since they are high in fibre.

 Well, I think you're allowed to be paranoid because you have rabbits! Comes with the territory.

Hope Rudey sees some improvement soon. Best wishes for Doughnut as well, cpayne :)

Thank you. I think the injection helped, but she still won't eat any hay even though she was hungry.

Thank you all for your kind words

I'm pleased Doughnut is starting to feel the power of her steroids. I thought maybe Rudey was starting to feel the benefit last night. He is so picky with food which is really stressing me out as he needs more calories & I also need to be wary of calcium. Plus Mouse (who is the size of a house) is very quick to snaffle anything I'm trying to tempt him with. His poo is plentiful but way too small. He has just been started on metacam (tiny dose) & I got some fibreplex (which I've never used before). He will not eat hay. I hope you can get Doughnut dry. Rudey manages to keep himself dry which is more than I can say for the floor . Such a worry aren't they. Will Doughnut have steroids regularly?

I don't know. I am back tomorrow. She is happy and I've given her lots of pellets to get her weight up and I think she is now 1.06 instead of 1.00, so it seems to have worked. She used to be 1.24. She's still wet though and not really relaxing that much but still happy bless her. How's your little one today?

Thanks for asking. His poo is pitiful :( He looks bright but I'm still struggling with his digestive system - Rudey won't eat hay either. Bit of a personal question (my apologies to Doughnut) but is her poop ok? Rudey will only eat a few nuggets . I'm wondering whether to try him on dual care but I'm wasting so much trying him on stuff & he just isn't interested. He is off his anti biotics now which I hope is a positive & will make him feel less icky.

Pleased your little one has gained weight. Lots of luck for her check up tomorrow - let us know how you get on xx

Her poops aren't great a lot of the time due to her slow gut mobility and various meds she's had to be on. On a daily basis at the moment she has normal pills, which are small than they used to be due to not eating hay, then soft stools which are mixed up with her cecal. She's probably eating too many pellets but I need to get her weight up and even if I give her less, she still won't eat the hay.

I have about 5 different hays scattered around and can't fit any more in my cupboard! She seems to want to eat it though as sniffs it so I keep thinking dental, but she had a dental last week so I am despairing on what to do regarding that and like I said she does eat a lot more pellets if I mash them down or hand feed them. Alfalfa hay is good for weight gain if they eat it. Also I know when Doughnut was on antibiotics I was also told to give her a probiotic. I've forgotten the name but not to put it in water as they don't get enough. My specialist told me to syringe feed it, mixed with water to make sure she gets a lot inside her. Also given her echinecea as that's a pick me up.

I feel your pain. I just want her well again. She's happy and following me around and begging even when she has pellets, so I have to show her them and put them under her nose then she eats them. So I think is her eyesight going as well. I'm just so confused by it all. Dry for a few days now constantly wet and not relaxing.

Do you want to PM me with your address and I will send some dual care pellets to you to try mashed up and a few dry, then you won't waste your money. Doughnut still loves dandelion leaves but won't eat grass :). xx

I get you have to feed her lots of pellets ...I would Rudey if he'd eat them. He is supposed to be on low calcium but I'm afraid at the moment its anything I can tempt him with. Although they are not similar in health issues we seem to be dealing with a lot of the same stresses. Thanks so much for the kind offer - if you're sure I'd really appreciate a few in an envelope. I'll pm you xx

Cool I'll send you a good handful so you can give some dry and if it's a no try them with a bit of warm water mashed up. Yum yum!

Do either Rudey or Doughnut like fibafirst sticks? I can send some for them to try, if you would like? My two think they are great.

Doughnut didn't really like them, but thank you for the offer. She loved fibreaplex or however you spell it, probably because it's carrot flavoured! She is eating most things now, will eat basil and coriander after the pellets but I need her to eat hay. Hopefully at the vets tomorrow she has put on weight as I feel she has but that may be her wet bum making her heavier!!

No problem  what about chopped grasses? Grasstastic is a fescue chopped grass if they can’t have chopped alfalfa. I haven’t got any at the moment but I think you can get samples, as it’s only sold by the giant bag! . Also the chopped herb mixes from nature’s own go down well here.

She's got alfalfa but won't eat that either or the oxbow which is lovely and green. Her favourite hay which was with rose petals is untouched. I may try and get some apple sticks, I ordered on ebay last time as I think they are quite good for teeth, but they were too small. I need thick sticks not silly little ones which she had no interest in. Just need to get things to wear her teeth down, any ideas appreciated, but would ultimately love to know why she won't eat it any more. I need her to be able to talk :).

Sending our very best wishes for Doughnuts appointment today. I hope Mark has some ideas about tooth wear too xx

Will the herbs grind her teeth down as she may go for them. She eats basil and coriander and dandelion leaves but don't think any of these grind them down. She won't eat fresh grass. Mark suggested chopping up the hay into small pieces. I did that yesterday and added it to her pellets hoping she would eat some of it and discover she likes it! Think some went but basically the pellets were picked out :)

I would think they would help, I use them alone or mixed into hay to tempt Frosty to eat more. I use the sweet green herb mixes

I've seen a noticeable increase in appetite in Rudey from yesterday afternoon, its been lovely to see him look like he is enjoying food . He even took a chunk of carrot. Over the past week or so he has stopped moving with his abdomen low to the floor & wee's on the floor have drastically reduced too. I'm hoping this means the antibiotics worked on my vets hunch of kidney infection or UTI. Regardless it is pleasing to see him presenting better:love:

This is great news  I’m so pleased. Go Rudey

I've also noticed he is feeling a bit horny. Pestering Mouse for love action. I don't know if this is him feeling better (or maybe the steroids kicking in after ages)
