  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sweet dreams Rudey

I haven't...yet. I'm glad you linked it though as thats gonna be next on the try list. I was deliberating for ages between that & the CC. The banana & apple will appeal to him I think so maybe he will eat it freely but I do like the sound of that other one. Do you rabbits find it tasty?

I have not had a Rabbit refuse it.....................yet !

brilliant ...good bunnies. I should have got that one. I will, it'll just have to wait a while.

He's being a right pain in the bum. If he doesn't want any he turns his back to me & shakes his upper body & head. If I try & persist he scoots in to the litter tray & eats (or snips in half) a whole piece of hay

I missed the last update somehow. He is doing amazingly well in your care

Thanks. I do try but I'm unhealthily obsessed with this little bun, I spend half my waking life (at least) worrying or thinking about him & everything I do revolves around him

You do a great job with him, I'm sure in his own little bunny way, he appreciates that you are helping him :D well most of the time anyway

Rudey is 2.47k  Has been on a no messing about 6 feeds a day regime - if he won't eat it off a spoon he gets syringe fed (which I've only had to do once this week). A mix of dual care, few protexin & banana / apple cc seems to work for him. His weight did go down a short while ago so we've worked hard to get it back up. His poo isn't too bad considering either

Started 9 day panacur on 4th Feb (just for my notes)

2.47kg  Lopsy's a little overweight when he hits 2.5kg (him and Aboleth established their normal at 2.4kg, no idea about Chibbs yet!) so Rudey boy must be a bit bigger, and from the photos he looks like he should be, recalling what Mouse looked like :) I hope his weight at least stays the same with the Panacur, in case he thinks another intervention is worth messing about with (I do like the no messing about 6 time day, sounds very proactive :D).

He looks like a 2k rabbit, I couldn't believe how "tiny" he was when he arrived. I think his happy weight must be about 2.6-2.7 . Generally all 4 hover between 2.3 & 2.8 Mouse is very long.

I though Lopsy would be bigger . You never can guess size on here very well IME

Thanks for all the encouragement folks. I feel its earnt:lol: - 6 feeds a day, foraging most days & keeping his floor coverings clean & dry is quite time consuming but he's worth it. It also shows how interventions can be quite simple but effective.

Hi Just caught up with this. When Doughnut lost weight my specialist gave me vetcal pro, it's supposed to be really good. Doughnut had 1ml syringe three times a day.

Thanks. I did discuss this with my vet when Doughnut went on it - she didn't think it was right for Rudey as although he needs to put on weight he also needs the fibre & water from syringe / spoon feeding. He also has quite a sensitive tum (aka stinky bum).

Shhhh, don't let the OH know that, he'll be feeding him up! I operate a strict 'pens in pocket' ribs-feel policy :D Although it's obviously more difficult in winter with outdoor bunnies :S I'm certainly more lenient when they get a bit 'blanket over vertebrae' feeling when it's cold! Summertime blankets not allowed!

Oh this is lovely...& makes a refreshing change from me asking Bob " aren't I doing a good job with Rudey". I do wish there was someone to share the job with occasionally

I know the feeling, my boyfriend won't do any medication, syringe feeding, fluids.. Basically no medical care [emoji38] he'll clean up though even if it means doing it all the time, and he'll stay with them... Just no medication [emoji51] same with the hamsters, I have to do that alone, would be nice to share that kinda thing and not have to do every single one [emoji38] he does wash all syringes though if he's there [emoji38] he also won't pick any of them up, he's terrified of hurting them by getting it wrong [emoji51]

You are doing an amazing job with Rudey though, and it really shows [emoji7]

I got Bob to give Rudey & Mouse their metacam on Monday then got him to make up & "administer" a spoon fed while I stayed in the kitchen. Both went smoothly. However when Bob has tried to give him his first of the day he has refused it. Rudey refusing food is quickly followed by an indignant shake then he limps off at break neck speed with sad eyes looking at you like you're a bunny abuser.

It doesn't help that he genuinely won't even try it before you pretend to have some. Its a bit ridiculous but true. I often have a dried blob of cc on my top lip
