  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Update Doughnut has arthritis of the spine - laser treatment

Have you tried her on these

I am guessing that Mark will want to be mindful of her renal function given all the drugs she is on, so alfalfa hay (too much calcium) and readigrass (too much protein) may be best avoided.

She won't eat any of the readigrass or alfalfa anyway. I did try her on the vet care ones ages ago but she didn't really like them and I'm keeping her on the dual care ones at the moment as so high in fibre since she's not getting any hay and got all the vitamins in it. I'll probably keep her on them permanently since they seem really good and she eats them.

She was actually a bit more relaxed last night and stretched out but still wet and this morning she is soaking wet again but still wants to eat. Mainly her pellets but preferring them mashed up!

Hi all

Just thought I would give an update, she's still wet and not relaxing so saw my specialist again today. Upped the metacam again to 0.7ml twice a day and also he tried laser treatment on her spine. If I notice a difference in a few days I'll then go back and she'll have 5 treatments close together then a monthly one. I'm going to start a thread to see if any other bunnies have had it

Not my bunnies, but my dogs have had it for post surgical pain to reduce dependence on drugs, while I can't say it lasts particularly long it does seem to work very well. :)

Thinking of you and sweet little Doughnut. xxxxx
