  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Just lost my rabbit to EC 😭

I’m so heartbroken. We’ve just had to have our 4 year old Flopsy put to sleep just to EC. The vet said it was a severe infection and she didn’t think she would recover even with treatment. What about if I’ve made the wrong decision to put her to sleep. I didn’t want to leave her in pain. She’s got a sister and she’s now all alone and I feel awful 😭 I’m treating her with panacur and I hope it doesn’t affect her too. Has anyone been through this and does anyone have any advice on how to clean the hutch and look after our rabbit that is left? Thanks in advance x

I’m so sorry  thinking of you at this very sad time. I don’t have any experience of this but I’m sure someone will be able to advise.

I am very sorry to hear of your loss  With regards to EC there is a lot of information on the following links which may help you better understand the condition

RIP Flopsy

I am so sorry to hear your sad news  Your remaining rabbit should cope ok on her own but in time you could look for a neutered male rabbit to bond with her. Introducing them must be on unfamiliar territory for your girl as they can be very territorial.

I am so sorry you lost your beloved bunny. It is never a bad decision to not want your beloved bunny to suffer.
