  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Otoscope

Does anyone have their own otoscope to monitor there's buns teeth? After the drama I had with Bobby last week I'd really like to be able to begin learning to assess teeth myself so I don't have to rely on a vet!

I don't want a really expensive one, the ones that link to you phone https://www.amazon.co.uk/Teslong-Ot...uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVlhttp://https://www.amazon.co.uk/Teslong-Otoscope-Inspection-Samsung-Android/dp/B074MQTDB8/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?keywords=otoscope&qid=1566241160&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExTEdTTzRMQk5RSFY2JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMjEzNjM0MVhQTEc2NTdMMFJJNyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNDA3OTA2MTZHVzVCSTAzRTFXMyZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX3Bob25lX3NlYXJjaF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl seem to have really good reviews for wars although the ear pieces being plastic are a concern but maybe ok for occasional use?

I've never seen the ones that link to phone, I've got a torch one like vets use, it's really good and strong should bunny chew at end, like if it where plastic the may chomp down and crush it so you end up seeing nothing and then rabbit has plastic in mouth
Got mine off eBay number years ago, it came with a few different sizes to it on end for viewing in rabbits mouth, ears

IMO it would not be suitable to examine a Rabbits teeth, the plastic speculum would be crushed in one chomp and so would any cable Bunny managed to get hold of. To examine the teeth a Veterinary Otoscope with a long steel speculum is preferable. The speculum on the one in the link is too short :)
