Cheaper and better alternative to critical care sachets

Since Doughnut's been ill I've been syringe feeding her critical care. When I spoke to one of the nurses at the specialist practice she advised swapping to Dual Care by Burgess. Apparently all the vet hospitals are using this now instead of critical care. It has the same vitamins, prebiotic, support for the gut etc but is so much cheaper and also higher in fibre, it has 42%. You can dry feed it or syringe feed if your bunny is too poorly to eat. Doughnut now eats it willing and this will probably instead of her pellets now. Although she hasn't been eating hardly any hay, on this her poops have been really big!

Just thought I would share as I had never heard about it before and I think it's great.

Ah that's good to know! I've seen this online and wondered about it :)

We’ve been using this for a few years now - I find it much easier to syringe than critical care (and much cheaper!)

Thanks for the heads up, I'd never heard of it before. I usually have few packets of CC stocked up in case I need them but they are expensive!

I've just checked and the hay experts stock it so I'll be adding that to my next order.

No haven't heard of it either, but will definitely have a look, always good to be prepared. Thanks for info !

It seems to increase their appetite as Doughnut seems starving hungry now! Trying to fatten her up a little so she has some reserves if she is poorly again or needs a dental!

My bag of Dual Care arrived yesterday. I offered both buns a dry nugget to see what they made of it. Unfortunately they were not impressed! They gave them a sniff and then ran off giving me the bunny V sign.

I think the problem is they smell a bit of mint and they have made it very clear to me on several occasions they don't like mint.

I hope they'll at least take it via syringe when the need arises.

When Sonic was ill and I was at uni, my sister came up with a concoction of his normal pellets mixed with water and orange juice, heated then mushed up. He had refused all Critical Care, and she knew he had a sweet tooth, so came up with that. It worked wonders, and although it's not ideal due to all the sugar in the OJ, it kept him alive and he was a very healthy bun for some time after!

Oh no. Doughnut loves it! She's back to being a piglet but still hasn't put on much weight!
