  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hair inside eyelid/tear duct area

took a couple of breaks from work to do his ointment and later check on him. He's very capable of opening his eyes but after the ointment the right one went back to being almost completely closed when lounging so I'm not applying any more until I've spoken to the vet about it.

A very wise decision. What is the name of the ointment ?

Just an update for my own records really:
The vet seemed rather annoyed about the notes not being thorough/specific enough (she read them aloud to me) but assured me she'd had a good look at his eyelids and they're fine.
She then looked as best she could with him awake at the back side of his tear duct area. Neither of us could really see anything but she didn't pull the skin back as much as the first vet. We did one more lot of ointment to see if there was still a reaction and there wasn't so I've been treating him twice a day with that and I'll just keep an eye on the situation. If they still look irritated in a couple of weeks I'll take him back in.

I really hope his eye settles down and that he wont require any invasive treatment xx
