Advice on gut stasis

Bertie had the buprocare stuff for stasis and was so drowsy he couldn't eat for several hours. He needed fluids from the vet the next day but made a full recovery. Do hope Apricot perks up soon. xx

4am update, she's nibbling veg again.

I hope that both you and Apricot are feeling a lot better this morning.

I'm sorry that she did indeed get drowsy after all :(

Really pleased to see the veg nibbling update. Has she had any drinks?

Not 100% on fluids honestly :(

So I called the vet because I really wanted her to have more metacam this morning, a vet said she can have the same dose twice a day so I just gave her some a minute ago, it's this one... So 1/3 of the strength of the dog one I usually get from my other vet... And this time the vet has done it by weight.. So she's 3.6kg and we are giving 4kg worth on the metacam syringe.. I've no idea what that is in ml though :( does this seem right to anyone who understands dosages? And is giving 8kg worth a day in total too much? A vet has said its fine.. But I'm just wondering if anyone here has any thoughts because Idk :(

There's more poops, still dark and small but bigger than yesterday, I'm not sure it was the cardboard.. They're all full of hair [emoji849][emoji51]

She's eating dried forage atm and a few strands of hay so I'm hoping things are looking up, having been really examining all poop, I think it's the hair [emoji38] could've been the cardboard too Idk, Penelope dealt with that fine but I know it can cause issues.

Glad I gave her the painkillers this morning, she became much more lively and she's been scooting about more and running up to me.. Just hoping the eating can continue and the poops will get more normal.. Feel so bad about it - you've been here a year! Next day - stasis.. [emoji38]

I’m glad that she’s pooping more,Frosty sometimes has a gut slow down when he’s moulting, possibly the cardboard compounded the situation, or maybe she was craving fibre and ate cardboard as a result? I don’t give Frosty cardboard anymore as it caused a complete slowdown with him when he ate it!

My vet always dispenses the dog one for the bunnies so I don’t know about the dosage for the cat one I’m afraid.

I'm pleased Apricot is doing better today.

I have been given the cat metacam for my buns before and I remember the volume I had to give was a lot more than I've had to give for the dog version. I don't really know too much about dosages, but given the amount I had to give Snoopy (who is 2.7 kgs) I wouldn't be surprised that a bun of Apricot's weight has been given quite a large dosage.

Thanks both, she's been eating veggies like a fair amount, but then she lays down in the litter tray and makes a loud teeth chattering, grinding noise every so often :( I guess that means she's in pain? She looks quite relaxed when doing it, then a few minutes later goes back to nomming spinach :( so idek..

The vets she's seen wouldn't do tramadol.. I'd have to take her to the exotic specialist, but I can't get there today, vet isn't there tomorrow.. [emoji849] I'm going to collect my car this evening really don't wanna leave her, but my boyfriend isn't confident getting the car and driving it back - it's a fair way out in Essex and he's not from around here and isn't a very confident driver and my cars a pig to drive anyway, so I'm hoping he'll notice if she needs to be taken somewhere :( there needs to be more exotic specialist everywhere tbh there's a serious lack :(

The concentration of active ingredient (Meloxicam) in Cat Metacam is 0.5mg/ml, that in Dog Metacam is 1.5mg/ml, so Dog Metacam is 3 times the strength. So the dose of Cat Metacam given to a Rabbit (in ml) will be 3 x more than that of the Dog Metacam to obtain a therapeutic dose (in mg)

Yea I saw that :)

I just didn't know what 8kg was in ml and how to work it out etc. I realise it'll be more because it's a 1/3 of the strength :)

I rang my normal vets, my vet worked out the dose for the cat one for her to take twice a day, and if we run out, from clementines loxicom [emoji38] so grateful [emoji7]

Also Apricot is still eating veg :)

So I tested it.. 0.4ml she was getting of the Cat Metacam once a day - I asked for twice which they agreed... My vet said it should be 2.8ml twice a day... So yea.. Was a pointless dose of metacam she was prescribed... And I'm now glad she had the Vetergesic [emoji38]

I'm glad you got it sorted out. What a difference! I also missed your earlier update and I'm pleased that she's still eating veg (even if she has eaten all the Ribwort ).

I am sorry I am late to this but relieved to read she is eating. Lots of vibes for your girlie and hugs for you xxx

Yea she's eaten it all! I have bald plants now [emoji38] had to go to tescos this evening, and bought like a tonne of veg and herbs, before this we were managing with what was in the garden for daily feedings but I didn't wanna destroy all the plants etc if I didn't have to, plus I didn't do spinach and that's a big favourite rn [emoji38] she's eaten a load of veg today but that's it.. And some dried forage and a tiny bit of hay.. But it's mostly veg still. Hope we can continue on til Thursday when she can see my vet, although she has everything except maybe Emeprid aswell.. I know that and cisapride can be given together.. But she is pooping just slowly and they're very small and black, bigger than yesterday though. Even though its been a miserable time off, I'm so glad I am, normally I'm trying to work from home or juggle it and rush around whereas this time I can just be here and not have to worry about everything else :)

I’m glad she is still eating, and the poops are getting bigger. They are a worry aren’t they!

Those metacam dosages are very different!
