  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Do you know when your rabbit is in pain...?

Idk how to ask this really, basically I know they hide pain etc etc but if your rabbit seems completely fine and happy in itself.. Would you conclude it doesn't need pain medication...? My vet wants Clementine on loxicom once a day now (was always twice so Idk why once now..?)... Indefinitely.. But she's not had any for days (whole different saga) and she's the same... She doesn't look uncomfortable at all and I've actually been trying to get her more active and she's been fine.. Like she's super happy... Idk if I want to give her painkillers if she doesn't need them.. But also I won't have her in pain... Would you go with your gut on this? Or just give pain meds incase?

She's eating fine, she's still dripping when peeing, but that's been the same since last Monday after the flush and before... She is able to pass fluids though. (I am getting a second opinion, I just Idk if I wanna go get more loxicom if she doesn't need it.. Plus I don't wanna have her on that if she doesn't need to be.. Every morning she has the human blood pressure tab still)

Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

Perhaps the Vet was thinking more along the lines of reducing inflammation in Clementine's bladder rather than pain, as such. Although of course inflammation can lead to pain. But I certainly agree with you re not wanting to give NSAIDs unless absolutely essential. Is your current Vet open to discussion about this ?

i'm pleased she seems well and happy. maybe as you are seeing specialist you could hang fire to get their opinion and review if her demeanor changes. My vet suggested the anti inflammatory effects of metacam last much longer than the pain relieving aspect which could be something to consider -if its true that is

Tbh my vet isn't there, and because of this no one could answer if she was okay to come off the meds, a nurse got hold of her and rang me up to say this.. Before that they said I'd have to see the non exotic specialist vet and have a consultation with them... I've not been overly impressed with the service... Also never got back to me about when to stop the fluids... Idk what's happened but its not been great! They probably won't be very happy that I asked trinity vets to contact them and get all Clementines notes either.. But not sure what I'm supposed to do in this situation really [emoji849] I don't think having one exotic vet who's not always there is really working, it's probably that, but that's not my problem - well it is as there's not many exotics around here [emoji38]

Won't be going to trinity til next week, think I'll monitor til then - I don't really feel like I'm getting proper advice currently :(

I would certainly discuss this with your current vet before continuing. In particular I would ask where they consider Clementine is feeling the pain and whether it is being prescribed purely for pain relief and/or for inflammation. I generally think it's evident if a rabbit is in pain by the way it moves, but obviously it's not always easy.

That's interesting, yea all a bit of a mess tbh. The thing is also from the beginning she never went down hill... Like everyone else has been like the rabbit looked sick turned out to be sludge etc etc, Clementine was always just her.. Was only I noticed the dripping... Otherwise we'd never have known... And I don't think it's because we don't notice stuff... It's just I cannot stress enough how completely okay she seems... But she's obviously not :/ but maybe it isn't causing discomfort...? Idek!

Yea I'd really like to, but it doesn't seem to be an option unfortunately :(

Yea if you saw her rn I bet any money you'd be like what's wrong with her exactly? [emoji38] She's getting more used to running too, and she's been flopping and doing loads of binkies and I bought her loads of new tunnels so she's been zooming in and out of them and I've been making her chase me for food... (pretty sure my neighbours must think I'm nuts)

This sounds really positive and I can't see that she can be in a lot of pain. Personally, I would wait until next week, as you have said in your later post.

Yea I've been doing daily Clementine boot camp, I get home and we spend a lot of time on the grass doing things, she still lays down sometimes that's okay though, and she's eating more grass etc which is good for moisture :) I guess that's the only positive with Clementine and her situation... She's a bit like a dog... Very very food motivated, anything for food [emoji38][emoji38][emoji38][emoji38]
