Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vibes and advice for Fizzgig please- Dental issues

Thank you both. If there is no improvement by Tuesday, the vet may advise further investigation under GA and dental work I guess. My main concern with that is that it is then less than three weeks before I am away for a three week period (8 Feb to 2 March). I think my Mum/Partner would be able to support Fizzgig with eye drops and cleaning if the eye is continuing to discharge, and they are experienced with administering oral metacam, but I'd worry if she was in a post dental recovery phase given that it took her nearly 2 weeks to eat normally. The trouble with Fizzgig is that even when she had an abscess she was still eating hay and only struggled to do so post op. If you were in the same position and a GA/Dental were recommended next week, would you go ahead as a precaution, even if bunny was eating well?

Thanks

Jo

Dental issues can escalate quickly certainly within 2 or 3 weeks. I think I would get any advisory work sorted ASAP (unless it is very minor and something you know will wait from past experience) to allow a recovery while you are still there to look after her, and to prevent it becoming critical while you are away and someone else having to deal with it, unless you are confident that they can cope.

Thanks, that's what I'm worried about. No she's only on the eye drops right now but I have brought her recheck forward to Monday morning on the expectation that she may need surgery and we'll take it from there. 😭

I would want to make sure that skull radiographs are taken too. Sending lots of vibes xx

Okay, she's home, and she's eaten one of Liz's oaticakes 😊 we have penicillin injections and saline to flush the wound. Vet advised to separate her from Sprocket but keep them close, so I brought their run into the lounge and divided it down the middle. I am now getting some very confused/dirty looks from them both. But I noticed Sprocket had a bad stomach last night and he has been grooming fizzy's eye area so my worry was that he had ingested some of her eye drops. Not really sure if this is going to work I feel bad for them being separated 😢:

I’m glad she is home recovering, sending lots of vibes. I hope they can soon be reunited.

the photo link works. I know that confused look! I hope she recovers well & can soon be reunited with sprocket

Thanks, me too, they are used to having free reign of the lounge when I'm at home so they are very confused. I think they are sulking now.
