  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Poorly wild rabbit

Hi everyone

I just found a little baby wildie next to the road. She looks in a bad way. She's very lethargic and weak. Has been holding her head all the way back. Like a head tilt but straight up. Not all the time but quite often. She also seems to have balance problems. I've given some baytril, metacam and a small amount of fluids just to try and help her until I can get her to the vets. Anyone know what this could be? Wondered about E. Cunniculi with the head tilting but not sure it fits with it going straight back. Her back legs don't seem to be working quite how I'd expect.😥

If anyone's seen anything like this I'd be grateful for any advice. I don't hold out much hope but want to give her a chance.

Thanks

I wouldn’t give any medication, I would visit the vets ASAP. They usually treat wild animals for free anyway.

Hope you got sorted at the vets, any out of hours should take the poor bun. Well done for stopping and helping
