  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

A question about Dennis

Dillon does not wash his face and gets "sleep" in the corner of his eyes. A damp tissue sorts him but he has been to the vets and there is not a medical issue to cause it. His ears are larger than Susans and cooler on the end. Sending vibes for Dennis and I loved the photos.

Yes, I believe so, I'm sure my vet said this when Noodley went dental about 7 years old (she had a lot of related issues, she is not a good example, just how it came up. Joey has had 2 dentals, 4 years apart

But you say Dennis has always been like this for the 2 years you've had him so JC would have noticed at health check. If its because he has stopped cleaning them then maybe a review of his metcam / pain management is needed? Your plan to book in to the local clinic with JC is exactly what I would do. Travel with bunnies is risky! Nobody knows this as deeply as you xx

Moral of the story for anyone thinking about a change of geographical location - always put need to be close to rabbit specialist as number one priority.
I'm glad you agree - I've had a dental bun in the past and he had runny eyes but he would slow down/ stop eating. Where as Dennis is eating loads - his appetite has completely turnt around since he has been with me. He's even snatching of Maple which is amazing and I really encourage it (hehe) also the bows on my slippers get tugged at when I do not break biccie up fast enough. This is was made me hesitate about taking to the vets urgently

Mike - did your bun slow down or stop eating with a blocked eye duct?

Also, if he had a tear duct problem would it effect both eyes. Both eyes are as equally as runny?

Henry only has a problem with one eye. His other eye is perfect. But Henry's problems can't be cured as he seems to have a birth defect that has created a solid blockage in his nasal cavity.
