Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Would you run a basic blood test on your recently adopted 6 year old bunny?

Charlie is in for a health check and his vaccines on Friday and im really tempted to run bloods on him with him being a older boy. I assume the bloods will only really tell me if his kidney function is ok, im not really sure if rabbit bloods will tell me much more but maybe having a base to compare bloods to as he gets older would be good?

Although im kindda worried that they will show something terrible thats untreatable, or maybe they will show nothing/something that can be managed well with early intervention.

I haven't had basic blood tests done on any of my healthy rabbits.

I don't think it can do any harm but I definitely wouldn't call 6 old. You could discuss it with your vet and see what they advise.
