Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Pickle and Beans have been neutered U/D fighting

Glingle

Warren Veteran
Can I have eating and pooing vibes please? I think I posted on another random thread somewhere, that Pickle and Bean’s hormones have kicked in and it’s been a humpfest here. Thankfully, it’s been good natured up to now, I’ll chase and hump you, but then groom you and then we’ll swop sort of thing.
Anyway, my vets last week were reluctant to neuter them due to their weight, I think they were 915 and 935g or some like that, and they wanted them to be 1.2kg. After I pointed out they were nethies and were unlikely to ever get to that weight, we agreed that I’d find out their parents size. I left a message for the vet earlier this week saying that their parents are 1kg and 1.1kg.
The vets got back to me about neutering Pickle and Beans. They’d prefer them to be as close to 1kg as possible, but will do them now. The “catch” is that they wanted one specific vet to do it as he’s the “quickest” and does all the tricky operations. That means that his diary is very full and the earliest he could do it was 5th June. They did suggest phoning each week to check for cancellations as because he has a waiting list people often ask to be referred to to a specialist who then does the surgery.
I’d been wondering about the vets that Rabbit Rescue North West use as they’re only about 40 mins away. Vanessa B had used them and thought they were good and agreee they’d be worth contacting.
I gave them a ring yesterday and explained the situation. The receptionist thought it would be fine and booked them in for a pre-op this morning.
I took them down to their practice for 11 this morning. They were happy to do the op and said they could do it now! I wasn’t expecting that and certainly hadn’t taken any of their food with me that I’d normally do if they’re having an op. Anyway, I agreed as they are constantly chasing and humping each other and they’d already had the stress of travelling there, rather than going back another day. They’d put the estimated cost on the consent form which was £40 less per rabbit than my usual vets!
They phoned about 4 to say that they have both come through the op fine, but aren’t eating or pooing yet. They’re proposing to keep them in overnight (at no extra cost) so they can monitor and syringe feed them if necessary. The night vet is going to call me by 10pm with an update. I’m hoping that by then they’ll be feeling much better. Any vibes would be gratefully appreciated, the house seems very empty without them.

I'm so pleased, glad it's all done, at least you didn't have time to worry about it ! That's great that they are keeping them in overnight. Sending them both eating and pooping vibes xxxx

Sending billions of vibes for Pickles and Beans. I hope that they recover quickly and start eating an pooping soon and will be keeping a close watch for updates. These two are just seriously cute and I hope that they are feeling the love coming their way.

Sending Pickles and Beans a lot of vibes.
I have never had a vet refuse to neuter a bunny due to weight. My last Nethie to be neutered weighed only about 680 grams when he was neutered and he recovered well. He was only about 800 grams as an adult and he was not underweight, just compact.
It is not uncommon for a bunny to need some pain meds and extra support after surgery. I look forward to hearing a positive update soon.

Quick recovery & good appetite vibes on their way. Its nice they are together. Hopefully they'll be home in the morning xx

I hadn’t heard anything from the vets and so have just phoned them. They haven’t observed them eating, but the food they’ve put in with them has been nibbled and they’re passing some small poos. He thinks they’ll be well enough to come home in the morning. I’m going to phone at 8am for an update.
Thanks for all your vibes, I’m convinced they help. The house has seemed very quiet this evening, poor Willow Chops outside was subjected to being picked up and given cuddles! (She secretly likes a good fuss after she’s got over the indignity of being picked up).

Oh I'm pleased they have nibbled. Archie and Pip are sending them more Nethie vibes so they can come home in the morning.

Glad they're ok, small poops are good ! I'm sure they'll be a lot brighter tomorrow! and soon back home x Willow-bless
