Why is he gently biting me?

I got him yesterday and he comes over to sniff me and he will sometimes climb up on my knee. He also often bites me but I can’t even feel it because it’s so gentle. He doesn’t let me pet him and when I try he’ll run and stomp his feet. Why does he gently bite me?
