Eating (apart from hay) drinking weeing pooing. Generally fine. Still on antibiotics

So in a cat I would call it the 3rd eyelid. When he needed his dental his eye kind of popped and his 3rd eyelid covered maybe a quarter of his eye and was white with red vein bits.

Post surgery his eye reduced but the 3rd eyelid remained. Now it for all the world resembles a pink blister, almost looks like you could get it with tweezers ( dont panic,I wont be, I have a phobia of eyes) .

It looks like the ones when you google, I have had to have a word with myself and get to know bunny eyes.

Hes off to the vets this afternoon instead of tomorrow which was a post op, end of antibiotics appointment.

Most things say its a cosmetic thing to remove, well if thats the case then its staying, he doesnt need anymore trauma

Has anyone any knowledge of this please

Did the Vet take skull radiographs during the Dental ? Tooth root issues can affect the eyes.

I have seen this before and some info here

I am sorry you are having more stress with your bunny

He has an ulcer. Hes back on the loxicom and also now got Tiacil drops and also Viscotear gel.
He has lost 100g and is now 2.6kg.
The vet wants to see him again on Saturday. There is a steroid drop that they could try which she really was in two minds about today but has decided to give these other things a couple of days then Saturday may be the steroid drops.

She had a good look in his mouth and the abcess is still draining which he is now 13 days post surgery. His eye reduced a bit initially but is now staying the same

She has said we are not out of the woods yet, which isnt what I wanted to hear for my old lad.

Hi, yep loads of xrays. He had a tooth root from tooth 2 basically looked like it was tickling the back of the eye. He had 5 teeth out top left, its the left eye thats protruding. He had his front teeth cut straight and then spurs removed from the rest.
The abcess is still draining 13 days post op. this probably explains why he doesnt want hay or a whole carrot

I hope that the meds help, I don’t have any experience of this so I can’t advise, hopefully someone else can xx

Ouch, eye ulcers are sore. I really hope that it clears up quickly with treatment, he sounds to have rather a lot of Dental problems going on too, poor lad. Sending lots of vibes for him xx

My vet was very guarded about prognosis. I've searched online and can't find anywhere that says pts.
I feel he's had a huge amount done. 100g in a week is significant but in that week I tried cutting back on his picnic to encourage proper bunny food. Needless to say he's back on the picnic.

I feel that apart from the ulcer and dental he is doing well. He sat on the rug last night and had a good wash. He makes his way round the room as much as his mate does.
I just feel a big dental was bound to have repercussions ie ulcer. I can't stop now

It’s good that he appears to be doing well in himself  that to me is the best indicator of how things are going. He has had a lot done, last time Frosty had a dental he ‘only’ had small spurs corrected, but because he had ulcers either side of his tongue he was on waitress service with especially bought goodies for 10 days afterwards, on a cocktail of gut meds and painkillers so there’s no wonder Ozzie is not wanting to eat his usual hay etc.

It’s so hard  but if he’s bright in himself and eating well, albeit not what you would want him to eat, then those are good signs I reckon. Although as I have said, I don’t have experience of eye ulcers in bunnies.

Thank you. I just needed someone to agree with me. I don't mind if his eye never goes back to normal. I don't mind how he looks. I don't mind trying to bend down to my lawn a dozen times a day with a spine problem. I just want him to take his time and be ok.
I've found an eye gel called Remend which although it says cornea ulcers I am still going to mention it to the vet in the morning.
I am also going to take a daily photo because I feel that there is a slight difference today. The ulcer doesn't look as angry

He sounds to be in relatively good spirits and that can only be a positive. With regards to his food, I'd let him have what he will eat. Yes, a good hay based diet is what Bunnies 'should' have, but when there is already significant Dental Disease present Bunny will not be able to eat much hay and almost certainly not enough to maintain their weight and gut motility. I had a Bunny, Major Tom, whom I adopted from ARC a few years ago. He was aged about 10 and his teeth were an absolute mess. He lived on a diet of a mash of Excel pellets, pureed veg and Fibreplex. He ate no hay/grass at all. not because he would not but because he could not. So dont fret about your Bunny not having the 'proper' diet. In some circumstances the rule book needs to be throw out of the window................

More vibes being sent xx

'Santa' on here (now at Uni studying Vet Med) had a lot of success with Remend for her Bunny with a very bad corneal ulcer

Hi Squizz, I had one like this several years ago in an elderly bun. It went on for weeks and weeks, eventually I got a referral to an ophthalmology specialist and he diagnosed dry eye - basically her tear production had stopped working properly because of her age, so her cornea kept on getting ulcered. He said you can use all the antibiotics in the world and it will never clear up until you also treat the underlying cause - otherwise it's like watering a plant but keeping it in a cupboard...you could water it as much as you like but it still won't grow because it doesn't have other things it needs like daylight. He added hyabak eye drops to the treatment regime (you have to give these or similar drops half hr after the antibiotics otherwise they'll coat the cornea and the abx won't get to where they need to) and it cleared up lovely. The eye drops were for the rest of her life. I think there is an animal version now, called something like remend. I see you're in Essex, it might be worth getting your vet to do you a referral to Martin Lawton in Harold Wood, he is both an exotics and an ophthalmology expert so he has all the right equipment to do a really thorough look and diagnosis. All the best.

One of my rabbits had an eye ulcer recently and I managed to clear it up using a product called Remend from the vet. It's a bit expensive but contains hyaluronic acid which is very healing.

I found Hycosan eye drops helpful too, but I did also use viscotears.

Been back to the vets. She removed the scab from the 3rd eyelid. Which made me a bit eww. I really don't do eyes.
Carry on with tear drops and antibiotic drops. I've ordered Remend online.
He goes again Tuesday when she's pondering if it's of value to either stitch the 3rd eyelid across or stitch his eyelid to allow the cornea to heal.

In himself he's doing ok. Swiped a good 3rd of a banana from me this morning and ate some pellet mush.

Topping up the vibes for him, I hope the meds and the remend work. It’s really good he’s feeling good in himself:love:

My previous dog had this done when she had a corneal ulcer that would not heal. It worked. I have no experience of the procedure being used for Rabbits though.
