Protein levels in forage help

Yes wondering about joining, haven't got a lot of spare cash, but should be able to sort that.

Also looking at Oxbow papaya tablets to her digest the fur. Have you tried them. My vet said it might be worth a try.

Well if I can ping off something to them I'm happy to :) if you don't want to join that is.

Yea we tried them, I'm not sure about them honestly, like there wasn't any difference really.. So Idk if they worked or not, plus Clementine wouldn't eat them, she was most put out [emoji38] worth a try maybe though :) or is it freshly squeezed pineapple juice that supposedly helps? Apparently the enzyme that breaks down the fur isn't in non freshly juiced pineapple... I think I read that somewhere.. Or I'm making it up [emoji38]

Thanks Graciee, perhaps you could ping them an email and then if they have any idea I can join up. I do like the idea of supporting them. :)

Yeah I've read mixed reviews and that some buns won't eat them. She is quite fussy too. Lol.

Been doing more reading and wondering if perhaps it's the stress of moulting that is slowing her gut down so she pulls her fur cos she's in pain or stressed?

Yea sure, if you write something up I'm happy to send it, (I just don't want to get any of pips details wrong :D)

Here's all her info

Pip - 3 years old Netherland dwarf neutered

Pulls chin and chest fur and eats it for 3-5 days, every 4-6 weeks.

Causes gas, and GI slowdown, sometimes stasis grinds teeth and strains to poop when it's really bad. Poo output slows, but doesn't decrease in size.

Quick to bounce back after pain medication.

Seems to be when she is moulting, creates bald patches, but skin never broken or sore. Fur quickly grows back.

House bun never goes outside, lives with Archie.
They live in a large pen and get let out in the morning and evening and all day on days off. (3 days a week)

Diet
Ings hay
Beaphar nature pellets 15g a day
Dried forage as treats

What we've tried so far.
Mite treatment
Changed original pellets and removed veg
Urine test - all good
Panacur treatment for worms and EC.
Teeth checked - all good
Ears checked - all good
Blood test - all good

Vet thought it was behavioural and she was perfect in health.

She has done this for the whole time we've had her approx 3 years.

I think that's everything. :)

dear mervinius,-here are two websites which will help identify the problem http://www.medirabbt.com and http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/poop.html sounds like your dvm is at a loss for answers..--true rabbits do molt, and pull fur for a nest, but whats going on is excessive..--I would like to point at diet--70%[non digestible]-fiber-[timothy,orchard grasses]-lots of water,-quality pellets-[with probotics]- for some digestible food and much needed vitamins,--some treats..--sounds like the poops are string of perils with the consumption of fur-which may require pineapple juice for digestion.and infant simethicone-for gas,--remember rabbits cannot throw up[no muscles],therefore anything that goes in must be processed and go all the way through...I hope all this helps-sincerely james waller from across the great pond-usa

Awesome, do you have the email address to send it to? I'll ping it off later :D

Ah okay I'll have a look later :)
Thanks Graciee, we can always try the general info one and they could pass it on. She's pulled loads while I've been at work.

Hey, so I was going to send that email, and was looking at what members get etc and saw this -

And as if all that wasn’t enough, if your rabbit is ill, your membership entitles your vet to consult with our world-class veterinary Specialist free of charge.

So I'm thinking you may actually need to join, or first ask your vet if you joined, would they consult with their specialist? Not sure my email will help much tbh, as I'm not a vet

Ah I see. I could ask my vet, not sure they want to do anymore though about it. They think we just need to work with the issue.
I need to take them in for a nail trim, so I could see what they say.

I think you can request they do it. My vet mentioned something about it once, they may not want to.. But as they're out of ideas and you're not convinced anything is helping I think I'd potentially be inclined to ask them to, if you think it could help :)

I'll check with them, they may have contacted them before without saying I can't remember. I've ordered some papaya tablets to try though.
