  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Off to the vets later.

Both Harlequin and Beauty are having sneezing bouts. Have also been watching Harlequine and her head is rolling to the side and then she straitenes it. It’s only happened a couple of times but want to see what’s going on so will be off to the vets tomorow as I’m quiet worried. Both girls are being there normall high energy cheeky mischievous selves though so fingers crossed.

I hope you get on OK Lisa xx

If you can, try and get some video of the H's head rolling to show the vet. Easier than trying to explain. She might not do it and you might not be able to catch her doing it though if it's very intermittent.

Oh dear, hopefully if they have the start of an active bacterial infection obtaining prompt treatment will make for a better prognosis.

With regards to Harlequin's 'head rolling', I'd want to discuss treating both Rabbits to cover for Encephalitozoon Cuniculi (EC) with the Vet, as well as any treatment given to cover for an active bacterial infection.

Vet thinks it’s pastarella so we are on the way home with a 14 day course of baytril for both Harlequin and Beauty and hopfully we will see an improvement in a week. If not then we will be back and I will ask for the EC swabs to be done but as the only symptom of it they present with at the moment is Harlequins infrequent head tilt the vet thought it was more likely to be the pasterella as they are also sneezing.

Thank you every one for the vibes and well wishes
