  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Pink bald patches on legs

Zarla

Alpha Buck
Stakki usually has very thick fur but it has got so thin on his legs that he has a lot of bald patches. The vet said it was due to his recent bout of diarrhoea (even though we washed him every day throughout it) but it doesn't seem to be going away. His poor tiny legs!

Anyone had any experience with this? Stakki is seven years old.

Do you mean the inner side of his hind legs ?

Is the skin very red and sore looking ?

Hi Jane, not really sore looking, just exposed pink skin in lines along the inside of his back legs.

Washing can irritate the skin as the fur keeps the moisture adhering. Rabbit fur is like a sponge and difficult to dry.

Can you perhaps trim the fur down and apply some healing cream?

Derbymed SCP Spray 200ml is a soothing, antiseptic wound spray that removes excessive moisture from open wounds and aids in the management of cuts, sores and proud flesh

Flamazine is good, but needs a prescription:

Thank you, MM, didn't know that about washing. He is over his loose bms now so doesn't need cleaning up. If it persists, I'll take him back to the vet and mention that cream.

You're welcome.

It should all clear up nicely now, with any luck!
