  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

We lost Ziggy.

I can't believe it! I beginning to think I'm incapable of keeping rabbits alive. I've barely come to terms with losing Skye and Thor. Ziggy was 6.

He'd been great and the first sign anything was up was when he didn't run for his tea last night and instead sat in the corner. We were going to bring him inside for the night but thought that might stress him so we shut them both in the playhouse (normally they would have access to their run 24/7). When I checked him very early this morning (before work) he'd obviously passed in the night .

He literally went from 'appearing' fine to gone in a matter of hours! No weight loss or anything prior.

The only thing out of the ordinary was that he went along to the vets with Dottie on Friday while she had her jab - coincidence? He wasn't due any till March / April.

We don't want to leave Dottie outside by herself especially at this time of year, so we feel our only option is to bond her with our single boy, Spud. But that does mean moving her inside.

How soon would be too soon?
Should we still bring her inside from now?
Will she be stressed being moved in?

So many questions and thoughts going around in my mind!

Thanks x

I'm very sorry to read this  What a horrible shock for you. I think if I were you I would bring Dottie in from now. I wouldn't necessarily start to try bonding her yet, but I wouldn't like the thought of her alone outside especially as it's so cold.

Sending lots of hugs.

I agree with Omi's advice

I am very sorry for your loss

You're not incapable of keeping rabbits alive, you've saved the lives of many & given them lovely forever homes. I've seen it so many times on here, really good bunny owners just have horrible runs of bad luck & of course the more bunnies you have, the greater the likelihood of experiencing loss. Thinking of you & Dottie

Sweet dreams lovely Ziggy xx

I wholeheartedly agree with this. You’ve given so many rabbits a second chance to have the wonderful home and care they deserve. The losses you’ve suffered are a result of nothing more than pure, rotten bad luck.

I’m very sorry you’ve lost Ziggy. It must have been a terrible shock [emoji17]

Please give Dottie lots of nose rubs from me xx

Exactly this xx

Thanks everyone.

It just feels like we never catch a break. I'm going to be constantly afraid of going through this again so suddenly.

You know when you try to do all the right things (vaccinations, good care etc) and you still lose them, when they could of had years left :( x

I'm so sorry :'( I really think its rubbish but these things happen :( there's nothing you could have done, hugs xx

Oh no
I'm so so so sorry for your loss.
It's difficult at the moment, but you're more than capable of caring for rabbits. You give them so much love, care and attention and you go above and beyond for them.
