U/D Vibes for Henry please -New 6th FebU/D after vet

Ok, the link below is to a video I just posted on you tube. Apologies because it's sideways because (a) I don't know how to use a smart phone properly and (b) I'm an idiot! I also didn't post this on my you tube account because (a) I haven't made one yet and (b) I'm an idiot!
This is henry this morning. It's his left leg that is the injured one and towards the end you can see it crossed over his right leg. I'm open to anybun out there giving me their views on the leg - if it looks seriously bad or where they think the injury could be. He tends to run now with the tip of his paw - as if the flat part is painful. Does anyone observe anything obvious that I'm issing or having thoughts?
I'm always welcoming your valued opinions:
Thank you all again
Craig

This is purely speculation, but to me it looks as though the injured part was the superficial digital flexor tendon. It's frequently the cause of lameness in horses and recovery time can be protracted.

Thanks for doing this Craig - it's a useful bit of documentation for you and your vet too.

Henry is markedly protecting his left leg/paw, but equally he's managing to get around really well despite it.
When he flies around doing his zoomies do you notice whether he's holding it up the whole time, or fleetingly weight-bearing on it?

Thank you for your kind observations Jane. That would fit in with the torn tendon theory and probably explains the angle Henry holds the paw at. I shall mention this to the vet on Monday and advise the forum. Thank you so much for following and your helpful advice Jane.

A hard one to answer MM. He does zoomies in the house from left to right - therefore I'm blind sided. He does seem to be getting round - when I've tried to watch, he seems to use the paw on tip toe - if that makes sense. He just seems unable to plant the paw properly and flat, creating the angle with the rest of the leg.

Latest update on Henry following the exotic vet spacialist this morning. Well, there are some positives. Firstly he's putting on weight - another 50g so he's now back to 1.9k. That's 100g in a week and I guess he was just so poorly with his eye and leg he just wasn't interested in food. So his weight is going the right way.
I showed the vet the video of him going round the pond on saturday. She was pleased that he is mobile but Henry is under strict orders to not go outside, not doo zoomies and for all intense and purposes bed rest. That's not going to be easy. Henry was binkying and zooming round the living room this morning.
The vet says there is signs that he is using the leg and has feeling as he is putting it down, although still protecting it.
The vets best diagnosis, give the presentation, is that there remains nerve damage which accounts for the fact Henry can move the leg and paw and can feel it and have sensation. He just can't straighten it out to bend it to put full weight on at rest. The vet feels that there may be a muscle that is inflamed and the metacam and gabapentin are helping to relieve that pressure. The issue we cannot yet resolve is where.
The vet also considered that there could be possibly a disc issue/spinal - if the disc has pressed on a nerve then this could cause the symptoms Henry presents with. My mind went back to the RHD2 jab and his reaction - but again, that would have been instantaneous and not a 3 week delay.
The vet did say that they are doing a special offer on CT scan at 700 quid - which would confirm conclusively, what if any muscle or disc issue might be there. But she agreed that for the moment, with this sort of injury, she would expect at least a 6 week lead time for improvement. We are now at week 3 so halfway there.
She checked his teeth regarding the eye problem and no spurs were visible and no blood or damage to the cheek or tongue - which is positive. Henry has some clear discharge from the eye - tears more than likely, but the vet is happy that the infection has gone. No redness on the eye - again, another indicator of any infection. She is happy to perform a tear duct flush which she feels she can do under loval anaesthetic, when we return in 4 weeks time. Henry was extremely well behaved with the tooth inspection - even the vet was very surprised at how well behaved he was. Mind you, he then proceeded to reap hell on his towel in his carrier, eating a big hole out of it in utter defiance!
So, we have more metacam and more gabapentin and I'm quite a few quid lighter for that, but to make Henry better is my priority and that is my focus. I feel frustrated that it is taking this time to heal - Henry loves to zoom and be outside and it's hard confining him to the house and limited to where he goes. But his little body needs to heal and I'm afraid this is just one of those injuries that will take time. I just wish I knew how it all started. I will never know.
Henry is sittiing under the table grooming Lillian and will have as quiet a night as we can give him.
Thank you all again for your continued following.

I know it must be frustrating to not really have a definitive diagnosis, but it does seem that Henry is making some progress. Hopefully this will continue. I expect he's glad to be back home with his wifebun under their table

Yes it's really frustrating when these things take so much time to heal.

I should think a small amount of exercise here and there isn't going to do much harm, though I guess it may slow down recovery a bit. A balancing act between keeping Henry sane and his muscle tone good and helping heal his injury.

Ongoing vibes for you all :)

Seems like you're just going to have to be patient with Henry's paw issue, which must be hard. It's good though that he's put on weight and also that the eye infection has gone :thumb:

He's doing really well by the sounds of things. I thought of you yesterday because Aboleth was paw-picking-up again, but running around on it as normal, and I wondered how often I miss sprains in my two, as I seem to see the paw-picking infrequently but often enough that they've both done it tow or three times I can remember. But they usually clear up in a day or two and it's rare that I don't see them, but there are days I don't go out to them (OH does of course)... I would definitely worry more if they were indoors and I could see them all the time!

Keep up the good recovery, Henry :D

Thank you everybun for your continued support and for following and asking. I do spend time looking at other threads and following you all as well. It seems a bit of a balancing act at times. My biggest flaw at the moment is still the impatient part.
So, how's Henry? Well, there's no real change. This is Henry yesterday morning:-

And then with hsi wife-bun Lillian, chilling under the table:-

He is still on the gabapentin and we make a bunny burrito every night to give him his metacam and echinea. He does take it well but he's clearly getting fed up. Thankfully the weather is pants outside so even if he could go out it wouldn't be great. Henry hasn't come into the living room this evening and is prefering to stay in the kitchen/diner. It would be an insult to everyone of you who works so much harder than I do on your rabbits and the care for them, to suggest that this is hard for me, because all I'm doing is giving his meds and restricting him from what he should be doing naturally - and deep down I think that is hard on their spiritual wellbeing because they are sort of stuck in the house and Henry has an injury which he is uncomfortable with, and a rotten hooman is forcing nasty tasting stuff into him - and he doesn't understand why.
I spent today reflecting alot on my bridge bunnies - the times we shared and how much I miss all of them in a special way. I guess I just feel a bit down at times and frustrated.
Anyway, things pretty much as they were and I will update again at the weekend.
Thank you again - your support means so much to me and especially Henry.

What beautiful pics, especially the one of the two of them  Henry looks very bright in that pic :D

Well, young Henry has his beautiful wife who takes care of him, and you and OH to watch out for his welfare.

He's a lucky bunny, and maybe - just maybe - he isn't taking this as badly as you are Craig?

Metacam - should taste good with its 'honey odour'. Does Henry not like that?

They are such a beautiful pair and they look so happy with each other

I think you are doing a brilliant job and it's sometimes hard to see that when you're so deep into a situation. When you reflect back on how Henry was at the beginning, it seems to me that even though it's slow, he's making good progress and I'm sure he will continue to do so. Keep going, your rabbits are lucky to have you :)

Does Henry like basil leaves? I have finally had some success in treating my bunny who is on a small daily dose of Metacam....she loves basil leaves and as they smell quite strong I think they must disguise the smell of the metacam as she happily eats a basil leaf folded up with metacam inside :)

Not so keen on basil but he's now sort of trained to know that yuki forced medicine time is rewarded with 3 juicy cranberries. That's Henry's favourite favorite food. You just need to make sure you count fingers after!

Have you tried mixing the metacam with baby food? Frosty loves the apple carrot and parsnip Aldi pouch baby food and thought it was a real treat licking a couple of teaspoons of that out of a bowl with metacam mixed in. You are doing a great job with him:thumb:

Mhmm, I do agree :) It's much easier for buns, much harder for us!

You just need to make sure you count fingers after!
 Yes, that's like my buns and banana, especially as it's usually ON my fingers and Aboleth doesn't relly understand the difference XD

Best wishes Craig, look after yourself :) You're doing an amazing job :thumb:

Friday night update for all you followers. I observed Henry this morning and I just had one of those inklings. A suspicion. It was how he was sitting, moving. I watched him move about and just briefly, just for a second, I thought that Henry was holding his paw better. He sat up and it looked like he was putting his paw down more. When he moved around, it looked like he was planting the paw down more. But I dismissed it as just wishful thinking on my part. Thing is, it's been 3 weeks and I'm sort of resigned to the long haul with no real sign of improvement.
But tonight when I got home, I observed him again. And I also asked the O/H what she thought. We both looked at Henry as he sat under the table - and he is sitting with more emphasis on the leg being down. It's very obvious. He isn't holding it up and bent as obvious as he was and when he is moving about, he is planting it down more. He seems to display a confidence in the leg now that had been missing even just a few days ago. But I also am wary about building up my hopes (and everybun following this) because I know without conclusive proof, this is just simple observations and they are not always reliable. I might just be seeing 'what I want to see'.
So I will continue to observe and restrict Henry's activities and hope that this is an upwards progression.
I will update again over the weekend.

OK so I want to say 'great news' but I shall say it cautiously and less loudly than I would normally!

Great News

Well done Henry! And congrats patient and observant Craig :D
