U/D Vibes for Henry please -New 6th FebU/D after vet

Henry is taking arnica on a daily basis and hopefully this will help with his recovery. Interesting obs from tonight. Have just cleaned his eye again and there was no discharge at all to report. No small floofy white bits or any sign of dicharge from the duct. He seems to have a wider more normal eye now - 12 hours after the second penicillan injection. So this should be a positive observation.
He is also now extremely resiliant this evening to taking his meds, and put up one hell of a fight. The last week he has been rather subdued and resigned to the daily squirt of metacam but tonight - my goodness. Something has changed within.
He has also been observed on a couple of occasions now, sitting very chilled with both front paws outstretched, rather than his bad paw bent under him. So he can chose to move the leg and therefore there must be some pain at some point which prevents him from weight bearing still. He has not moved much so unable to observe how he is getting round.
Third penicillan injection tomorrow morning at 10 with the vet whom we saw last week for his paw/leg injury so we shall see what progress she feels there is. But initially I would say that we appear to me making some progress on the tear duct infection.
Henry and Lillian are tucking into some fresh parsley and cabbage with a few leaves of spinnach and kale for supper.
Will update tomorrow after vet visit.

Thanks for up-dating us and sending more "get better" vibes for poor Henry and poor you. MM is always advising the use of Echinacea - have you tried it?

Good call tonibun, as Henry's immune system must be depleted for him to get such a bad tear duct infection.
Echinacea would be a good thing :)

In fact, from what you've said Craig, it sounds like there's been a lot of pus thrown out from the eye.
Not to worry you, but the vet was sure that it was all coming from the tear duct?

This is sounding far more positive, hope all goes well at the vets today.

Good morning every bun. Well, this morning things are.....interesting. I'm sure you are all keen to know how Henry got on at the vets. Ok, sit yourself down and prepare yourselves.
I had a rough night and gave up trying to sleep in bed so ended up on the sofa (I strangely feel more comfortable on a sofa). I slept ok but at about 4am the bunnies seemed to get spooked by something and were clatering and thumping in the kitchen.
WhenI let them in the living room at about 8am, I observed Henry seeming to display his injured foot more. He has little white feetsies and this is how you can tell when he has his paw set down properly as you can see the tufts. So he was sitting up and both paws down, albeit the left paw a bit gingerly but at least down and slightly bent outwards not inwards. This to me indicated that perhaps he was feeling less pain? But I'd also observed similar traits yesterday but I was holding back on that, trying not to be too confident and disapointed.
We saw the vet whom had been taking charge of his leg last week and she promptly picked her favorite patient up and put him on the floor, keen to see if there was improvement. I almost collapsed in shock!
Henry decides to go walkabout round the practice room and he's using all 4 limbs. His injured paw leg clearly now being planted on the floor and being used for mobility. No evidence of him holding off. He's in full explore mode and the vet said "wow - he has made significant improvement - I can see he is very different". I was speechless. He clambeing under chairs, periscoping and coming down from a periscope onto all 4 paws. Ok, still slightly gingerly on the injured paw but, when he stops, his leg now is formed correctly with the paw/ankle bent outwards, taking some weight or at least showing that Henry is controling the angle of the paw at the ankle and setting it correctly.
She checked his tear duct and did a thorough examination on it, and checked for any discharge of which there was none evident. She suggested that there may possibly be some slight discharge today and to monitor, but overall she was extremely pleased not just with the tear duct infection, but his leg.
Tomorrow is (hopefully) the final consultation at this juncture, with the exotic specialist who, according to the vet, rabbit mad. So I'm lookinig forward to that. Henry might have a final shot of penicillan but that will be up to the exotic specialist tomorrow.
I came away feeling a very deep inner sensation of hope and positiveness. I know it is sometimes folly to be uber confident at too early a stage, and I'm wary of that. Alot can happen and go wrong quickly, but from this mornings consultation, things seem to be very definately going the right way, rather than being static or going the other way.
I give each and every one of you a massive hug and Henry sends his love to you all for him being in your thoughts and for all your vibes. Henry is clearly responding and regaining his mojo. Time can be a great healer - it's just allowing that time to pass.
Also, can someone please advise me how and where I can get Echinacea. Can it be got in tablet form.
Thank you all so so much. YOu have all made such a positive difference to Henry and also to me.

Great to hear this Craig :)

Regards the echinacea, I personally use a brand I obtain from the States, as for me it's always proven to be the best over the years. But I have recommended this one:

https://www.baldwins.co.uk/baldwins-echinacea-angustifolia-herbal-fluid-extract

And I would give a couple of drops two/three times a day.

Ongoing vibes!!

Things are sounding to be a lot more positive for Henry now. Re the Depocillin, it is usually advisable to continue treatment for at least 48 hours after all clinical symptoms have resolved. This is just to make sure every last 'nasty' has been well and truly zapped.

Hope you are starting to feel better now too Craig x

Thank you Jane. As always, your advise is very much appreciated and very welcome. I agree completely - it is good housekeeping to continue with the injections to remove all those nasties.
Thank you again Jane. much appreciated.

echinacea ordered as per your kind advice, from the site link you provided. Henry's immune system is about to get a very deserved boost in a few days. Thank you so much for the recomendation.

As promised, here is todays update. Henry was appearing as more active this morning, exploring the room more and seemingly more happy to roam. I couldn't see if he was using his leg as much cause he was going the wrong way.We then went to the exotic vet specialist - a first for me (and Henry). It was an enlightening experience.
Henry's weight chart was on her pc and it showed very clearly a definitive decline in his weight from 2.25k down to the 1.9k he was last week and whilst that seemed quite a sharp decline to me, the vet, concerned, said that she could get his weight back up. But she was clearly concerned that there muct have been a 'trigger' for this weight loss which undoubtidly is where Henry began to feel unwell (or as I was later to point out, the RHD2 jab incident). But we'll get to that.
She advised me what she felt were her concerns prior to an examination. She felt that his leg injury (without any hands on at this stage) was probably the result of nerve damage - backed up and suported by his improvement afer taking metacam which she advised is an anti inflamatory as well as pain management. She said if he had an inflamed muscle from whatever injury there was, this could effect the nerves to the leg, leading to how Henry was holding his paw. With no obvious signs of injury, this is indeed plausable.
She examined Henry's eye after thoroughly and carefully feeling his neck and shoulders for some time - so she was extremely diligent. She said his eye was responding well and there could be 3 causes - possible tooth/root, an infection or a blockage caused by something. She checked his teeth (reluctantly Henry had to comply with this) and she identified some issue with his front tooth on the left side. She was unable to determine if the root was growing in an obstructive way - this could/would be identified via x-rays if needed. She couldn't tell what the issue was but has advised a long stem hay only diet for Henry for the next week. He's going to love that - and so will wife-bun Lillian.
There was no more evidence of any matter or infection from the tear duct and she did not feel it was relevant to give him further penicillan.
But what she has prescribed, is Gabapentin. Anyone had any experience of this?
The vet said this was a hooman medicine (I've signed a consent) and will help with any possible nerve damage/repair, alongside the metacam. I am to somehow break the tiny tablet into 4 and give Henry 1/4 of a tablet every 8 hours (or twice a day). A few grains is all he is allowed.
Oh, and back to the RHD jab that seemed to be the catalyst? She assured me that no leg nerves would be in the area of the injection, but Henry's adverse reaction by leaping, may have started his leg problem. She also suggested some vitamin B supplement to boost his immune system.
I am to return with Henry next monday to see how things are and what has changed.
Oh, and on a positive note - Henry has put on 50g in the last week or so. Not huge but shows that he is feeling better.
Henry is presently sulking in the kitchen/diner wih Lillian.

That sounds like an amazingly thorough check up Craig and I bet you felt it was worth every cent.

There is good evidence to show that Gabapentin works very well on nerve pain and I know several specialist vets that are definitely in favour of it's use :)

There's an article here that might be worth a read of when you've time:

https://www.researchgate.net/public...itis_leads_to_serious_side-effects_in_rabbits

Just thinking - would a hay only diet possibly lead to more weight loss, even if just for a short time?

Sounds promising,my 73 year old neighbour was on Gabapentin for a while,he came off itbecause he had a bad reaction to it,he's on loads of various meds.He also drinks too much ,not good.Treats nerve damage and epilepsy etc.
