Becky Piper (vet)

She is very nice, patient and most importantly she listens.
She was saying how amazing the facilities and equipment is at Crab Lane for treating rabbits, which she hasn’t had at her previous practices. I think now she has the knowledge and facilities of Crab Lane behind her she will make a great rabbit vet.
It’s my boy she’s cuddling in her picture. She’d just nicked his plums and sorted his incisors!

Fabulous. So chuffed you replied - thank you. I love that vet for its facilities, dedicated rabbit ward & that my buns seem to recover (you'd never know) from GA so quickly. Can she burrito though, that's the all important question? I want my vet to love rabbits & she seems to be scoring very highly.

I'm gong to bring my trios rhvd2 forward & book in to see her for vaccs & health checks

Bunny Buddy I spoke to Heather 2 days ago. She is off on maternity end of this month. Will be interesting to see who the new vet is. Richard Saunders? Molly Varga? John Chitty?

Yes I’ve noticed the quick recovery from GA too. I’ve never seen her burrito - she maybe needs a lesson with Heather before she goes!! It’s a great vet, I go there all the time now, since Becky left my local practice. Although I did occasionally go to see Heather for more complex bits and the RHD2 vaccs.

This all bodes really well and is quite exciting, especially if we now have a rabbit vet in on a Friday which has been a concern of mine ever since I lost Dinky on 13 May. The OOH being a hospital also bodes well but yet to suss them out. .. but 3 rabbit vets at the same practice (even if one is just about to do the baby thing).. It's getting good again.

Edit to add: I've just rung Bishopton to enquire about OOH prices and they are massively cheaper than Ashlands. Ashlands are about £160 any OOH before 11 pm and £180 between 11 and ?7.00 am. Bishopton have a broad range of fees but start at £59, after 11 is £119. ... just such as shame they are so far away but they are definitely looking good for weekend daytime.

I thought Ripon would be massive treck but only 8 mins longer journey than to Harrogate (in car) for us. Good news they don't appear too over the top in fees .

I haven't had chance to look at route yet. Heather said, "It's 15 minutes away" but that is if you are travelling from Crab Lane. I meant to suss it out before an emergency but chance to drive over there for the sake of it has been non-existent.

I've met Becky briefly a couple of times while I've been there, she seems lovely. She looks soo young though, which I probably really a reflection that I'm old!! She seems lovely and she just seems like she belongs the way she's interacting etc.

Edit to add: For me RAC route planner gives Crab Lane as 35 minutes, Bishopton is 55. I don't fancy the alternative routes for the midnight dash, it would have to be the main road. There's a rather pretty route round the back of Menwith Hill but I will give that a pass unless the main road is closed.

Edit to add more!! This gets better and better - I rang Bishopton again to ask prices of 'rabbit vaccinations'. I've done this with a few practices (eg two branches of Myerscough) and it's like getting blood out of a stone getting RHD2 prices - both Myerscough branches took a total of 12/15 minutes to tell me that there wasn't a second rabbit vaccination... The question was my test to see how much rabbit traffic they got. Now, I asked this at Bishopton and she told me the Myxo price then spontaneously told me Filavac is £26.65. I had thought they used Eravac because of something I'd read on the net, so I asked, she said I could have either but they do stock Filavac mainly. (I'd read a post from a breeder on FB re having her rabbits vacced at Bishopton but I'll assume she requested Eravac for a multidose vial as it was for a large litter.) I've also observed that they have Shona Haydon on their team who has a special interest in rabbits and... has attended ALL of FHB CPD. Looking like a good choice for OOH?!

Have you been yet?

It's H's last date before maternity leave tomorrow. The new vet is called Helen. I *think* I've been told she is covering maternity leave rather than permanent but I may have merged information there.

I have information re who is covering maternity leave and it is far better than any of the above ;)
(covering the specialist aspect of her job)

Shall we send Joey&boo in with a list of questions? I am interested in her opinion of medicinal properties of plants for bunnies

I think that's an excellent idea :thumb: She's someone I would rate the opinion of regarding medicinal properties of plants.

And I'm sure we could think of numerous other topics for questions. It would be very wrong to waste such an opportunity

FHB?

No, sadly not. She very reluctantly retired due to health reasons so unable to return however tempted she may be. Heather is an orthopedic surgeon, it's that aspect of her role the mystery person is covering.

Yes! Nigel HB will be returning, but on a very limited basis. He is probably equally clued up on the medicinal properties of plants etc... But it won't be a case of booking vaccines and taking a list of questions!

FHB is still working hard on the website - the desired info may well be on there in time. She may however decide it's available elsewhere and focus her efforts on more veterinary based info.... Time will tell...

I did wonder when you said it was to cover Heathers speciality!

Always good to have an experienced surgeon on board though I hope we never need him, welcome back from retirement Nigel

Omi & Loobers - I don't reckon she'd know / care that much about medicinal values. Well she might but her emphasis is on getting bunnies lots of fibre / lignin & the right amount of calcium which is nicely achieved through forage & "any hay they will eat". She started her dental lectures for owners showing these super healthy rabbits she studied on a ridiculously barren landscape (I forget where)

I think you are all forgetting Joey is the herbalist. Ask him any questions you like
