  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Chewed through 240v mains cable! Seems okay? Should I be worried?

So just gone midnight Honey apparently made the new years resolution that she wanted her humans to spend more time with her... And took out an inch of the 240v power adapter cable for the internet.
Took us about 5-10 mins between 'the internet's out' and 'oh goodness, so is Honey' (who let herself out, I might add).
Obviously the fact that we're here and not up the vet right now is that she appears to be okay in every way. Miraculously she appears completely intact, no burns (I also checked soft tissue inside mouth with an otoscope, all looks normal), heart is regular and sounds strong/normal (checked with stethoscope) breathing normal etc and she's just ripped a blueberry from my fingers and had the whole thing in one go  There's about an inch missing of the blue (positive) wire but we later found it on the floor so she hasn't actually eaten and of it.
So as far as I can tell she seems fine. But I'm just wondering if I should be worried about any kind of after effect? Should I just keep an eye on her or does she need to see the vet tonight/tomorrow? It'll be out of hours now (of course) so I don't want to take her unnecessarily but at the same time I certainly don't want to not take her if there's a good reason she should go?

5 mins into 2019 and we've already had out first disaster :?

What a little madam!

Idk what to say...[emoji38] But I think if it was me, I'd keep an eye on her based on everything you have said... I feel like if something bad was going to happen it probably would've already.. And the fact none has been ingested and she seems fine, I'd keep an eye personally - obviously if you're unsure or anything changes taking her to a vet would be a good idea :)

Thanks Graciee, that's kinda what I'm thinking - I was just worried if there could be some kind of later complication but she certainly seems fine, been bashing my hand around for more blueberries and is currently attacking some veg with (almost) equal force.
Obviously the slightest sign of something wrong and I'm going straight up the vet.
Ugh, barely into 2019 and they've started already! I've already had Pixel in for a dental on christmas eve, why do they always do these things over holidays/out of hours?!
Little nightmares
