Why does my rabbit do this?

I have the book by Anne McBride, and it's really interesting.

Rabbits are amazing animals, and there's no end to their ingenuity I've found when they need to get their point across to you.
I was just musing on some of the ways they have 'spoken' to me in the past :)

Very interesting :) Fleur was by far the weirdest most amazing bun I've ever had. She'd thump and make noises at me til I let her jump onto me then if I stopped petting her she'd thump (whilst on my leg, even for a mini rex she had some serious power [emoji38]) and make a noise at me, then as soon as I started petting her again she'd settle down and her teeth would chatter, she was the most incredible bun I've ever met, I think if she could've been with me constantly, she would have been happy, she'd throw herself into my arms any chance she got.

I'm sad I only had 8 months with her tbh, she really connected with me and it really was like we understood each other. It's weird to me because my current 4 are very special, I love them all so much, but I won't pretend that they're anything like she was.

One day ima get all the videos and images I took and go through them, but it's still too soon rn. Because she was so funny I filmed her so much, so one day I think that'll be nice to see :)

Fleur sounds to have been a quite remarkable rabbit

It really didn't seem fair that she had to leave you so soon.
She was too big for this world, but was a beautiful companion to you whilst she was here

Yea sorry, I never really talk about her, but I think about her every day, she's the second animal in my life to have really changed me and had a huge impact, and she was the first very vocal bun I've had :)

She really was too special, and I feel honoured to have had her in my life, even if it wasn't for long. Altho it never would've been long enough in her case I don't think.

Sorry to derail your thread! D:

You haven't derailed it!

I know what you mean about being honoured to have a particular rabbit in your life
Some souls just seem to be older and wiser than others, and have a handle on life quicker than some others.

I don't know what makes that happen between human and animal. It's just special

Those are very touching words MM. I do ponder every day about the elements of life and why our loved pets have to leave us. Why has evolution done things the way it has.
I love trying to understand the various complexities of the rabbits I've cared for and at the same time, observing them learning. It's fascinating watching how much more in tune to nature, rabbits are, than us. But since their heitage is prey animals, then that's logical. They have the ability to learn and adapt and they have moods the same as we do. I also actually believe that rabbit owners are far more adept at understanding animals needs because unlike say cats & dogs, rabbits (and hamsters, guinea pigs, chincillas etc) aren't vocal when they are unwell. That puts greater emphaisis on us as keepers to understand them and respond quickly.
What I wasn't prepared for was the pain and sadness that comes with the loss of a special rabbit (or in my case 2) - and just how much it effects you. Whilst it was an honour to have them in my life, the sadness and emptiness that follows when they are not there, is something that cannot be explained or healed. Does that make us better or worse as people? I grieve because I feel a sense of helplessness because I couldn't help Georgina and Ben live. It frustates me and hurts me everyday.
But you could argue that their loss became Hillians gain. I wish in some ways my bond with Hillian was closer, but they are different personalities and my role has had to adapt to that, by allowing them to live the life they want, and feel safe with us, rather than the extremely close bond I shared with Ben.

Yes you're right. As rabbit owners we almost have to think like a rabbit and be as observant as they are, or we may miss the subtle signals that could possibly save their lives one day.

Loving an animal deeply, when they are so utterly dependant on you, in my opinion can only make us better as people. It gives us depths we couldn't get in any other way.

Someone I know told me that she never grieves so much as for a rabbit she has lost. She feels that a part of her soul is being ripped away. It's an awful time, losing them. But by protecting ourselves from grief, I think we lose a part of us that needs to reach out to another soul, another being, and help and give love and compassion.
