Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit had a stroke or seizure!

Hello, Seeking help as to what I can do to help my Lionhead Rabbit. I think my rabbit may have had a stroke or seizure. Heard a loud noise coming from her cage, she was flailing around in her cage and then she just lid on her side. I have brought her in on my bed and wrapped a blanket around her. She doesn't seem to have motor functions, small movements like twitches, is drooling, heaving breathing. I am just trying to keep her warm. Her hind legs are stiff and cold. She was healthly and normal before this happened. It's been more than an hour and she still is in the same state. It is Friday night and I just want to keep her comfortable throughout the night until morning when I can get her to a vet.

Please is there anything more I can do? Thank you kindly in advance.

Hello

I am assuming that you are not in the UK ?

From what you have described it sounds as though your Rabbit is seriously ill and really the only advice we can give is for you to get her to a Vet immediately.

If there really is no Emergency Veterinary cover 24/7 where you are located then you need to try to keep Bunny warm and prevent her from hurting herself should she continue to have seizures. Without a full examination it is impossible to say whether your Rabbit had a stroke or a seizure- or both.

There are several possible causes of the symptoms you describe :

Do not attempt to administer food/water- she is at high risk of aspirating (choking on) anything given orally. I really hope you can get her seen by a Vet within the next few hours and that she can survive x

Welcome to the Forum and I am very sorry to hear about your rabbit.

You should get her to see a savvy vet as soon as you can for some help here.

A vet can assess what the cause might be and address it quickly. If it's E.C. suspected then a course of Panacur can be started right away. Your vet can also give an anti-inflammatory (Metacam) to help with that too.

Good luck, I hope you get to see a vet very soon.
