  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Re: dry skin!

Hi everyone!

I previously took Coco to the vets for him to be treated for fleas/mites. He didn't have any but obviously I wanted to get him treated anyway (as you should!)
So we did the treatment all well and good, this was last month i think! About a week ago i was playing with his ears (his favourite thing in the world!) And on the back of his ear (not inside outside!) I felt something so i looked and he just had dry skin so i wetwiped him with rabbit wipes and all was okay, i did end up taking some of it away (was flaking) I've just checked again and he has it on both ears. I don't think its mites as he's been treated... Could he have eczema?

It is a little red about the area but it doesn't seem to be bothering him!

I got my Dennis checked for flakey skin and they said it was absolutely fine. I think maybe it's because they are both black furred bunnies. Interested to hear others opinions xx

Phillip is black furred too and gets white patches from time to time which aren't mites...maybe you're on to something loobers.

Maybe it is because he's got black fur! He never used to have it though [emoji57] so wasn't sure! He is absolutely fine in himself, I'm just a worrywart!

I'm going for mites. You can't see them with the naked eye. How long did you treat him for last time? The injections are the best I have heard, 3 spaced out by the Vet. Maybe MM will come along.
