Lord Herbert's Thread-Updated 20th Nov-Doing Better Now

Lord H seems to have made it through yet another relapse. He is less spaced out this morning and yesterday afternoon/evening he only had a couple of 'absences'.

Thank you again for supporting me and for caring about my brave Bunny Lord H

So glad this particular roller coaster is looking calmer again. Long may it continue.

I’m so relieved he is still stable, I hope he will remain well for a long time to come :thumb: xx

How do you cope when he has a seizure?

I just sit near him, gently restrain him if necessary to try to prevent him hurting himself. I also turn off all electrical devices and if it's daylight I close the curtains.
If his seizure goes on for more than a few minutes then he has to have diazepam administered rectally.

Seizures are really distressing to witness, but Lord H seems to cope far better than I do. One of my previous Rabbits, Billie, had numerous seizures a day when sleeping. His were related to EC. He would often squeal during a seizure which was awful. But the Specialist Vet treating him assured me that the squealing was not due to fear or pain, but an autonomic reaction to the 'misfiring' electrical pulses in his brain. Billie started having seizures at puberty and despite numerous types of treatments they never resolved. However, he lived a very happy life for almost 8 years and it was not his seizures that caused his passing. It was renal failure. Possibly due to the EC and/or all the drugs he had had over the years to try to stop his seizures.

The amazing thing is that like Lord H, Billie never stopped eating, he was never distressed or depressed and all of his companions (4 other Rabbits) totally ignored all the seizures, even when he squealed. Normally if other Rabbits hear another Rabbit squeal they all freak out. So I guess his companions knew that the squeal was not a response to danger. They understood far more about him than I did.

Thanks A, I know one day he will not be able to recover. But I am trying to live in the moment, as he does. At this moment he is doing OK, but he has had several absences already today. So I am fearful that more seizures may well occur x

 Sending all the vibes I can muster, and hugs to you xx

Thank you. He hasn't had another full blown seizure yet *touches wood* and he is still chomping his way though a ton of hay and forages. He really is a brave Bunny

he is a brave bunny & very lucky to have such a caring carer.

I've seen one rabbit seizure and that was Pip during a very hot day. I've never been so terrified for an animal. I don't know how you do it, Jane. (((((((Hugs)))))))

More vibes on the way for dear Lord H. I hope Roisin is coping well too. xxxx
